U.S. Slaps New Sanctions on Iran- And China Says "No You Don't"

The White House on Wednesday slapped new sanctions on several affiliates of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corp. in response to Iran's defiant move to bolster its uranium enrichment program to levels capable of producing an atomic bomb.

The new sanctions target one person and four companies for penalties over their alleged involvement in producing and spreading weapons of mass destruction.

The statement from Obama just repeats how hard he tried to talk to Iran.

BEIJING   However, China — which relies on Iran for energy supplies — maintains that now isn't the right time to discuss such measures and that the door to negotiations with Tehran remains open. As a permanent member of the Security Council, along with the U.S., Russia, Britain and France, China is in a position to veto any new measures.

The opposition is part of an increasingly assertive — even aggressive — Chinese diplomacy that is drawing growing concern from Washington and in Europe.

Among steps taken, Beijing this month threatened to withhold cooperation on international issues of concern to the U.S. in retaliation over Washington's approval of a $6.4 billion arms sale to Taiwan, the self-governing island that China considers a part of its territory.

Iran has defied five U.N. Security Council resolutions -- and three sets of U.N. sanctions -- aimed at pressuring it to freeze enrichment, and has instead steadily expanded its program.

But they'll listen this time 'coz BO said so.

The Chinese and Iranians correctly see him as nothing but a ditherer with a pretty face and voice.  They've got the ball and they're going to run with it for all they're worth for the next three years.

Ahmadinejad: Iran is a nuclear state
February 11, 2010
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that Iran has produced its first highly enriched uranium, a day after he said that Israel must be finished off "once and for all."

Ahmadinejad announced Thursday the successful production of Iran's first package of highly enriched uranium, two days after he ordered the processing to begin.

The president of the Islamic Republic told the country on live television Thursday that Iran had become a nuclear state. He added, however, that the country is not building nuclear weapons.

"We have the capability to enrich uranium more than 20 percent or 80 percent, but we don't enrich [to this level] because we don't need it," he said in the speech.

The announcement came a day after Ahmadinejad told Syrian President Bashar Assad in a phone conversation reported by Reuters citing Iran's state broadcaster that "If the Zionist regime should repeat its mistakes and initiate a military operation, then it must be resisted with full force to put an end to it once and for all."

Meanwhile, the European Jewish Congress on Tuesday called on European and other members of the U.N. Security Council to immediately move toward applying "crippling sanctions" against Iran over its refusal to scale back its nuclear program.

This might be the strike at the west that Iran has been announcing.

Ghadr-110...range of about 1,400 miles.

Puts S. Europe easily in radius and certainly Israel.

If only we had some sort of missile defense system.

Iran: We'll Speed Nuke Progress if U.S. Threats Continue

"Even if U.S. President Barack Obama dares to repeat threats of tougher sanction against us as much as ten times, we will still be determined to pursue our enrichment program, but with a much faster pace," said Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, reported by PressTV.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned the West to stop putting obstacles in his country's path.

Khamenei said large pro-government rallies held Thursday should be a wake-up call for the "domestic enemies and deceived groups who claim to represent the people," saying it was time for "foreign enemies to abandon futile efforts to subjugate" Iran.

"The past 31 years are not enough to awaken a few arrogant and bullying states to their futile efforts to dominate this Islamic nation," said Khamenei, who has final say on all state matters.

We see how well those sanctions worked against Iraq......  Iran will follow the precedent established by Iraq and it will ultimately take a war with them to get them in control. That is IF they don't start one on their own before that.
