Delta IV rocket launches from Vandenberg
« on: January 20, 2011, 03:47:40 PM »
The launch took place about 45 minutes ago.  This was the first time a rocket this size has ever launched from the West Coast.  I could see the exhaust trail in Orange County (175 miles away) a few minutes after the launch.

Afternoon delight!

Well, I will admit that was what was playing in my head when I typed that.  However, I think the launch was pretty cool too.

From what I read, over $100 million was spent prepping the launch pad for this rocket and there are more launches planned in the future.  I will be taking a day off the next launch and making a trip to the area to watch.

It is definitely something you should see.  I was fortunate to see a shuttle launch back in the 80's.

Tots, Afternoon Delight was popular back when I graduated high school...... You're simply too young for that song.

My wife and I were able to see a shuttle launch last April while we were visiting Disney World.  It was the highlight of the trip for me.  I just saw the other day in the news that NASA has added an additional shuttle flight this year.

Thank you.  I owe you a beer.   :cheersmate:

Unfortunately, I can sing that song word for word.

That sure is something, huh?  Worth every minute of standing around and waiting to see it.
