Spent the day on the upper St Joe last mid-week. Flows are perfect for wet wading and the fish are looking up!

Go mid week if you can, place can be a zoo on the weekends.
Fishing access is better upstream from Avery, just about every pull out will have a trail to the water.

Found that out on the Little NF CDL River. TONS of Washington plates.

One day I was trying to find a spot on the St Joe to fish, very busy weekend. I counted license plates from 17 different states. It can get busy there!
If you have the time take the road to the end at Red Ives. It's a one lane road with pullouts for the last 14  or so miles.

Actually went there yesterday and camped at Conrad Crossing. Fishing was ok, lots of campers. I went a little way up from Gold Creek but didn't have enough gas/time to go much past it.

I typically camp at Tin Can. Never stayed at Conrad, with only two campsites on the river and the rest across the road, I prefer lower or further up the river.
Good to hear you made it up there though.

Tin Can was full up. No one was at Conrad. The site was great and the fishing at the camp was too. LONG drive though.

It is a long drive. Two plus hours to Avery for me and once you get above there no telling how long the last 40+ miles will take.

Going to try to get back up there after Labor Day, but I have a week long trip planned for mid month, and a float trip on the Yakima before that.

So many rivers, so little time!

Back from my Lochsa river camping trip. Many fish caught, river was as low as I have seen it in the past 23 years. Rain hit us Thursday and raised levels back to streamer fishing levels. All in all a great trip.

Fished the NFCDA earlier this week. Cool temps and no fish rising. Caught nothing :( . Good day anyway!

If the NF is like the Little NF  once colder temps hit, the fish seem to shut off.

Ill post a pic of a Heddon I did a limited resto on.

Ordered a fly rod outfit from Cabelas  for one of my nephews, he fishes already but wants to learn to flyfish.
This is the second time I have done this, first one took to it good!

Pic is fuzzy but it's a Heddon Expert 9.5 ft Salmon rod, what they called a 3F ferrule size and made for Sears.
It's from a former co-worker who wanted it " fixed up a bit". It belonged to his grandfather who passed in the mid 60's. All I did was redo the stripping guide and an over varnish.
His grandfather had applied varnish at sometime but not very well.

Right now he is cleaning up his property in Florida. House made it, because its cinder block and raised up.

I like those old Heddons. I have one around here someplace, it was gifted to me, still has the plastic on the grip.

It's probably trash. Send it to me, I'll dispose of it.

LOL, I'll get right on it.

Most of my bamboo rods are newer. Main rod is a 7'-6" Channer, I have 3 or 4 more of his builds.
Kusse and Taylor quads, both 7.5 ft 4/5 wts.
A few others I cant remember, *G*
Also have a penta that I rewrapped a few years ago, almost done!

Yup, it's gonna be awhile before it thaws out around here.

After over a year I received a custom "plastic" (graphite) rod from my wife's aunt. I was contacted last year by the maker to "get a feel of what I would want".

Rod is a 4 piece 5wt pack rod.

WOW! That is one hell of a Christmas present.
Really like the feather inlay at the signature wraps.
Is the artwork on the grip sealed for protection? Love it.
What is the reel seat material? I like the results.

Very beautiful stick, get out and fish it!

It's going to get fished, trust me! No idea about the cork, I may look into "something" (?) to protect it.
