After 21 years at the same job the senior workers have it figured out when new temps arrive.
We never know what or who we will get, a person on work release, a crazy person or in one case a murderer that was to go on to kill again.
Good signs are new workers that want to know how everything works,keeps their mouth shut for the first 18 months about everything from coworkers to the job itself. Be a team worker and not expect to get any applause when they do a good job.
They remember the names of your SO. and kids, the month of your birthday and speak well of others to everyone. Most important is to speak well of someone who helped you out in a difficult job in front of boss and others.
They keep their personal problems to themselves be it divorce, or medical problem.
Those first 18 months are critical to show and convince the boss and coworkers you are serious about your job, strong and competent.
Listen to all the gossip you can get but never pass it on, or comment on it to the person giving you the "News".
Develope a shell as hard as rock. Look at yourself as others see you and keep a sense of humor.
How to loose a job, be late every day, First week there tell everyone that the procedures were differently at last job.
Set up a story to cover any failures you may have, I am ill, broke, come up with 100 reasons why you may need others to help you do your job.
Find someone that is said to be lazy or perhaps gross and make sure to disparage them in front of others .
Show disrespect for managers that don't quite trust you yet, spend the lunch and break time to let everyone know what a Dufus the manager is who has held their job for 18 years.
Show no empathy for others, you are important they are just meat. When a coworker leaves for another job tell everyone they were fired for incompetence. Make sure you jump on the failures of coworkers and remind everyone that you would have never done THAT.
The only way to work at the same job for 20+ years is to boost other workers up the ladder so they will reach down and pull you up along with them.
Theres allot of capable people out there that get trampled in the herd of idiots, if you can find a few, bring then to the attention of the high ups-----You don't have to be social Buddy's with them, better not to associate with coworkers outside work.
