PS: I don't know why, but when I posted the quote, and then tried to type, it kept jumping up and down on me. Made it very hard to see what I was writing. Could a mod explain why this is happening?

Are you using IE8? If so, see that little piece of torn paper on the upper right tool bar? (compatibilty view) Click on that and it'll quit jumping.

I've had the same problem. Thanks, AM, for the tip.

Thanks from me, too. We just switched to Firefox to cure it, but I'm glad to know about this!!

I think something in the code and IE just doesn't get along well. Try Firefox or Chrome.

Pretty sure it's IE 9, Mare. Doesn't look to be a torn piece of paper icon on the upper right tool bar. I am visually impaired, though. Am I looking too hard, or just overlooking something?
-
It's at the end of the address bar on IE8. You can select Compatibility Mode from the Tools menu (about halfway down).

WTF!! Just use Firefox and ferget about it!
-
Sorry, Rev, I don't know about IE9. Try Firefox, you'll like it.

I thought anyone with any sense already used FF! heh, heh!
I still have IE for certain things on the 'puter but damn it's slow!

I had to uninstall FF, everything was OK until I did an update, then for some reason it was slow as molasses, I tried to go back to the old version but couldn't find it, so I had to completely uninstall it, right now I use IE and Opera.

Thanks, Chris. I found it. I knew I was somehow overlooking it, but I have it now.

My virus programs went nuts when I opened Opera. I think it tracks you or something... I dunno

A few of my computers are older so I'm stuck right now using it, but on my newer computer I was able to install Google Chrome.

If you are using an updated version of Internet Explorer, there are issues with the board software and the way Internet Explorer interperets HTML. If you are experiencing jumping, moving, or unstable text or images, switch to Compatibility Mode using the icon at the top of your browser. This should resolve those problems until a fix is released to correct it.

Thanks Chris!!! That helped me.

That is one of the many reasons I don't use IE. Firefox still has some issues, especially wit DoD sites, but all in all, I stick with it. I will admit that FF is getting a little bloated any more.

Actually, I just had the same damn problem, so I went post hunting. I KNEW for SURE the question was answered for me. I just wasn't sure which of the 72 pages worth of posts I have it was on. Thank you again, AM. :innocent:
My other computer crashed, so I'm using a totally different one. Even though it's never had the compatability problem with The Cave before, it's fixed now. :-)

I've been having problems with conservativecave today, January 1, 2011, from about noon until now, circa 3:15 p.m. central time, 2:15 p.m. mountain time.
Loading--it loads about 90% and then halts.
One then either waits a long time for that last 10%, or "refreshes" in hopes that it sneaks in.
No connection problems, no problems with other sites on the internet.
As a result, I can't get all my new year's messages out, and so my apologies for those I've skipped, but it's a damnedable thing, this problem.
-
I haven't noticed any problems in the last half an hour....
-
I know it's not a big issue but the ad on the front won't show up casing the page to stretch.
Here is what I mean.

-
Buy a bigger monitor.

Buy a bigger monitor.
:censored:
It's not my computer and if it was why would I buy a bigger monitor? All I did was report an issue with the site. :banghead:
Have a BS:)

It's not a site issue, comcrap. It's not our fault that your monitor isn't set properly to display the site properly.
-

The Ad that is not showing is causing the sties main page to get stretched. The issue is not mine it is this websites. It's like when someone posts an image to large to fit.
The computer I'm on is set up fine at 1280*800.
-
Then your browser is screwed. I see everything just fine, bad code in the ad or not. So, try again.
-
I don't even see an ad in that spot, no error message either.
-
It's a little after 9:30 a.m. central time, 8:30 a.m. mountain time, Saturday, October 1.
For the past two hours, I've been having a problem with slow loading of conservativecave, and incomplete loading.
I've compared this site with other sites, and it doesn't appear to be anything at my end, as other sites have loaded okay, and loaded completely.
Thank you for your consideration.
-
It's okay now.
I got all huffy and puffy and bent out of shape, and left.
When I came back a little bit before noon (central time; 11:00 a.m. mountain time), I fussed and fretted and finally went to "network connections" on this computer.
Finding that, I looked at "tools."
Microsoft did its diagnostic thing, and came up, "no problems detected."
HOWEVER, it gave me a rather, uh, unusual option, "repair it anyway."
I chose that option, and the connection's been working slick as Crisco oil since then.
But a new question: if no problems were detected, how come it obviously repaired something?
-
I have a stupid question. I tried to post a pic in the Spa picture thread, from my photobucket account. I think it's too large. How do I resize it? I think someone asked that before, then I jotted it down and the notes made no sense. :mental: Can we review please? Thanks.

I hate that shit. It runs down my battery.
It does let me get around the firewall at work so I can listen to Rush. That's all I care about.

Well, that's pretty easy. Doncha have an AM radio? Rush is in every vicinity of a main city I know of. After all, I think he has like 30 million listeners.

-
Maybe it's just me.
I make a reply to a post and hit "Post." My browser (IE) never leaves the reply screen even though my post registers normally within the thread.
-
If you're using IE, have you tried viewing this site using Compatibility View?
-
Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time...

Have you changed or tried updating your DNS server(s)? I'm using 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (OpenDNS). I've been having similar issues recently.
This utility (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Other-Internet-Related/Google-DNS-Helper.shtml) will change it for you if you don't know how and doesn't come with any spam or advertising.

I am not able to use the bulletin icons to insert pictures or urls for websites :???:
-
Which theme are you using? Try switching to a different one in your profile.
Also, it may help to disable your popup blocker for this site.
-
You know, I am truly confused.
Really.
When I was instructed to disable the pop-up blocker on this computer so I could do something with e-mail, I did.
And now I'm having no more pop-ups, period.
<<<wonders why that is.
I'm beginning to like the idea of not using a pop-up blocker.
-
I think fewer and fewer sites are using them since most browsers are able to block them. They're not as prevalent as they were 10 years ago.

Help! I don't know who to PM to find my password. I'm actually Whiffleball and something has hosed up under my Options in Mozilla. Nothing about CC has been saved in the history and when I try to log in as myself no auto password appears as it did in the past.

Have to agree there! If you watch memory usage, and I do, just because I'm a born control freak, it uses boatloads of memory and seems to get worse with every update. I've gone to opening both IE and FF. Seems to speed things up when running flash programs. Video is much better if you keep one browser dedicated to Flash. (Farmville 2, or any online game that their server keeps your game play saves) Course I just blew 3 grand on a new hot rod gamer box, so I could be wrong.

Has something changed?
I no longer can get the "all unread topics" button. It was there earlier?
Actually, there were two...one at the very top where my avatar used to show (it's gone now too) and one down a little lower where the Home, Messages, etc are.
??????
I can no longer find the new unread posts
without going back to Home, then click on each forum to find recent posts.

That's odd; I checked mine too. I use Internet Explorer.
For those who don't know, the browser determines what's shown, so it's important to mention which one one's using.
I used to have "all unread posts" at both top and the bottom, just as Dori described.
Now I have it only at the top, and not at the bottom too.

I use IE too. Always have. This is very frustrating, as there seems to be no convenient way to access "recent posts" or "unread posts" without going to each individual forum.
How could it just disappear? I haven't changed anything, or even logged out or rebooted my computer.
-
Try using another forum Theme. Some of the installed themes are hit or miss when it comes to layout (SMF is a volunteer effort and isn't always perfect).
-
Okay, now the bottom "new posts" link is showing too.
It must just be one of those quirks that one eliminates by logging out and then back in during the day.

Tried logging out, rebooting and changing from IE to Firefox.
Now I can't find where to change the forum theme. Have looked everywhere under profile options.

Under "modify profile," and then "look and layout":

one sees near the top, "current theme," and then "core theme," and then "[change]."
Click on "[change]."
Don't be embarrassed; it's not an easy thing to find anyway.
I hope this helps.
-

Thanks. I changed the theme and everything is back where it's supposed to be.
I was using the default one. What's weird, is that I had been on the website for awhile and still had the page open. It seemed to change in midstream.

miskie's still fine-tuning the site; this SMF software's more complicated--more features, &c.--than the one previously used had been, and so things can happen without one inititating them. At any time.
But nothing disappears; if something's missing, holler, and we'll find it for you.

I really dislike being a chronic whiner--it doesn't help the reputation--but ever since I installed Windows10, there's something here on conservativecave that doesn't work any more.
I'm talking about the series of buttons in the "post reply" screen, which one's supposed to punch if one wishes to {quote} or {b} or use a smiley. They haven't worked for me since I put in Windows10.
-

Bumping this, because it seems lost to view.
Anyway, is it possible the SMF software here isn't compatible with Windows10, or vice-versa?
-
Is there a Compatibility View option in the Tools menu?

Did you download Firefox ? What browser are you using?
I'm really not fond of it.
Anyway, in response to Chris_, I haven't found any button that makes the view compatible, as it did on the old Windows. But given that Microsoft issued Windows10 when it was only half done, before they worked out the bugs, I imagine in another couple of long updates or something, one will show up. That's what's been happening with other features.
I dunno why they issued Windows10 when it was only half operational. What bugs me about it is that I succumbed to their incessant constant entreaties, "UPDATE NOW! UPDATE NOW!," because I got tired of the stupid reminders always popping up.
In response to thundley4, no, I haven't downloaded Firefox yet, so as to have a browser. I'm really nervous about downloading stuff, although in this case I suspected I'd have to do it sooner or later. But then now today, presto! out of thin air, there's a new option on Windows10 that wasn't there yesterday. One can revert back to Internet Explorer.
I did, and the {quote} and other things on the "post reply" screen work.
In case anyone's curious, these new icons and thingamajigs, such as the "star," are nothing what they were on the old Windows.
-
The very first thing I do with every new computer or after reinstalling/upgrading Windows is to download and install Google Chrome.
-

I gave the wrong impression.
"I'm not really fond of it" refers to Windows10, not Firefox.
<<<had no problems with Firefox two computers ago; didn't use it on the last one because no need to.
I'll wait for another couple of Windows10 updates to see if this problem gets corrected, and if not, I'll download Firefox. In the meantime, I'll just use the "open with Internet Explorer" option on Windows10, even though it's a bitch.

Uh.....

Bumping an old thread. But topical.
Tapatalk has not allowed me to access the site for most of this week. Since I almost always use the app, makes it a challenge. CU works fine.

Not really similar...
I keep pressing the '$-key', but no 3D hand digitally particle-morphs through the screen and gives me free money.
