My favorite seafood place -- comes right off the boats (Cape May, NJ):

Eat on the dock or inside (we always eat on the dock). They also have an amazing fish market inside.
Ok, now I have to come down for a visit!!

This one is easy.

Homey don't do seafood, so I don't frequent Joe's Crap Shack, Bob's Lobstah Shack, Eddie's Oyster Shack, or Forest Gump's Shrimp Canoe.

Sparky, Have you been to any of the seafood places around here?

some recommendations:
The Beach Plum
Ice House-New Castle
Wentworth -by-the-Sea just opened a new restaurant within the hotel, which has had great reviews
Bg's Boat House-New Castle
Rays Seafood rt 1a and the new one on rt 1 on the North Hampton/ Rye line(this one is literally across the street, from me, used to be the Abercrombie and Finch)
Petey's on 1a
All these are within 20 minutes max of where I live.

Sea I can WALK to Rays ,eat, drink, fall down, get home in 5 minutes even if that 4 Th drink makes me crawl home.

Long as I keep the outside lights on I can find my way home no matter how strong the drinks are.

I do hope this restaurant can stay in business,  The one next to it closed after years of being a neighborhood hang out, it was called Spuds.    All us old timers went there at least 3 times a week, meet the neighbors and the staff knew everyone by name.   We went to A &f on special occasions but the prices of the menu were outside our twice a week out dining.

Spuds was so different, they had specials twice a week for less then $5.00 including rolls and butter.

On the times they had fried clams on special they came from Mass. with them so clean one could see right through the belly's, Not one bit of grit and for those that did not eat the belly's because of that we all gobbled them up.

When the no smoking policy came in, those that spent time in a closed off room with bar and dining service went to a place they could eat drink and smoke.

Only place for that was home, get takeout service that means no tips for the waitress or bartender.
Then there is the loss of community action, no more meeting up with other people----Just sit at home by themselves alone.

I am still pissed after 10 years of how a growing business and place for those that cannot drive was run out by the Liberals.

I have watched this place go through 3 perhaps 4 different owners, under different names, but it is sad.

Now Rays, if they can put a smoking area outside with some kind of heater to allow the smokers to eat drink and be marry in the cold winter months, I just may with 300 others in my village visit it a couple times a week------, to eat or have a few brews, smoke cigars or cigarettes, watch the big games on big TV's never know, one makes more money on the bar take then the kitchen.

Vesta, Have you been to Rays? is as good as the one on the seacoast? One of the differences is the view. On 1a, you got the ocean and views of the salt marsh
This one here , you get views of Rt 1. How exciting!! :whatever:. I want to go there for lunch, on Thursday with mum...

Ahh, Cape May! Site of the USCGRECCEN, where I went to boot camp. January, February, March 1964, Cape May in the winter, roads paved with sea shells. Memories, memories....  :panic:

Went to the Joe's Crab Shack in Maple Grove, MN while I lived up there. I was less than impressed. The food was mediocre, at best & the service was even worse. I guess there's a reason they failed there because when I went to have lunch with Schadie, they were closed for good. We wound up going to Red Lobster just down the road. It was awkward having an unmarked police car following me. (Schadie's vehicle at the time)  :rotf: :rotf:

When I want seafood, I avoid Red Lobster and go straight to Long John Silver's.  Those are the only places around here.

If you ever get to Anchorage, AK this is the place to get crab! King crab legs as big as your forearm fill the table for $40!!

Gwennie's

I would love AK for their king crab and halibut.  I practically live on the ocean, and our fish here is so expensive and not a even a good selection.  Probably shipped in from somewhere else too.

I have a friend that runs a sushi restaurant in Missouri.  He airs in almost everything.  Of course, you pay for that with his prices, too.

I had some really excellent sushi in Omaha, and both of the places I went to had happy hours, so you could get it for a pretty reasonable price  :yahoo:

Sounds like a terrible experience, BD.  I don't intend to ever go in if I encounter the crap shack (none around me).  I detest overly loud eating places.

Depends what kind you get.  Some of the cooked sushi I've had is good (the fried shrimp with eel sauce is a good one).

I'll accept your definition. It does NOT change my opinion, however.

Not necessarily. Sashimi is raw fish. Sushi simply means wrapped in seaweed and rice.

Do NOT go there if you don't like loud eating places. I mean there are places that have a 'festive' atmosphere then there is Joe's. OMG that place is loud.

I have a discernment problem in noisy places ... In Joe's you simply can't hear. Not to mention the menu choices suck and they're not overly flexible.

That's one of the reasons I don't enjoy eating out anymore.  It seems like every restaurant we have is noisy, even if they are the fancy expensive ones.

I like my food to be recognizable as something would usually eat.

I was, however, once socially forced into having mountain oysters by some farmer relatives of a former brother-in-law. Fresh from the hog, too. A truly forgettable occurrence.
