Sons of Anarchy
« on: September 30, 2009, 06:46:56 PM »
I don't watch much TV except for cooking and home improvement shows. Be that as it may I watched both seasons of True Blood but got despondent when I realized:

A) it's 7 more months until the next season

B) the acting actually kinda sucks...BAD! It's fang-porn with all the talent that entails. The only character I thought was consistently well-played was MaryAnn and she's dead. Most of the other characters are cheap caricatures. Sam and Eric are the only ones that aren't played over the top.

So anyway I look forward to the next episode of SoA. The acting is a lot better. Henry Rollins is playing a skinhead. The politics have gotten quite Byzantine and the sense of ruthlessness is...exquisite (in one episode they burnt the SoA tattoo off the back of a narc using an acetyline torch).

Discuss.

Love it.  I have hung around with folks like this.  Kind of comes with the territory sometimes.  From what I know of 1%'ers from those I have been around ... this show is pretty close to being on target.

I grew up with bikers. You know how hard it is to get a date in high school with 5 brothers and a gang looking over your shoulder?  Sheesh!

I simply can not wait until Clay finds out about Gemma.  Though I thought she was going to settle that shit last night, it will build up until I can barely take it and them SAMCRO will lower the freaking boom!  It is so juicy.  I feel like a very sick person because I think Tig is sexy as all get out.

Big props to the website Hulu for having the show.  :cheersmate: (I don't have cable)

I became a big fan of the SoA creator, Kurt Sutter, from his work on The Shield. Mostly his writting but he's not a bad actor either though his parts in both shows are/were limited.

Glad season two is off with a bang, the bar was set pretty high but they have kept rolling along. I want to see more of the Shakespearean influence and know what really happened to the club founder. (Jax's real dad) I really wanted to see Tara knock out that porno witch but her "revenge" was even better than a punch in the jaw. lol

Good show!

Good show!

That's why I started watching too.  Last season was good IMHO, but didn't blow me away.  The first four episodes this season have been FANTASTIC.

Don't know if you noticed or not, but his Sutter's character "Otto" looks like he's going to run into some trouble next week, based on the previews.

Watching on Hulu I may be a bit behind other fans. They get the rights to air the show a week after it airs on cable (I think).

In any case, I agree, very good show going on here.

fwiw- I own every season of The Shield and have seen every episode at least twice (or more) plus all the commentary and bonus features. One of the best shows ever, lol.

It's really kind of odd how the show gets you to 'rooting' for the bad guys.

Plus, who likes Aryans?  They are just a big bunch of douchebags.  The only fight I would have to root for the Aryans in is Aryans VS. Pedophiles.

Yeah but SOA gets you to rooting for SAMCRO over the cops .... I just find it odd.  Granted .. a couple of the cops are dirty but still, it makes you think.

I doubt it.  I think Hale will get hit in the massive cross fire from SAMCRO and Douchenazis

At least they are entertaining characters.  Arkin & Rollins are a hoot.

They seriously skeeze me out!  It is bizarre how they get people to play these completely unlikeable characters on there.  I would have never guessed that Mitch Pileggi would play a neo-nazi on there too.  I also find it funny that Adam Arkin is Jewish and playing the role he is playing.

I hear he really got into character and had himself uncircumcized.

If you haven't ever seen it, Kurt Sutter's blog is pretty interesting:

BTW, he is a liberal, but it's still a good read.  No spoilers, just some talk of what's brewing on the show, usually months before they even air.

Oh I think I should add this show to my list of shows to watch.  Dexter started this past Sunday.  It looks like this season is going to be most excellent.

Be aware BEG.  Don't watch this with your kids unless you don't mind them seeing some pretty raw stuff.  This isn't your ordinary TV show.

This show kicks ass.
The choice given last season, "Knife or fire", yeah, **** it, just shoot me...
It isn't gonna blow when Clay finds out about Gemma, but, when Jacks does.
Mamacags, Tig? Really? I could see Jacks or Juice, but, TIG? EWWW. Why not just lust after Bobby or Piney?

I randomly caught an episode of The Shield, a few months ago... went to the video store, I'm now on Season 5.  Great series!

Oh come on now, you've read the play, you know what happened to Jax's dad!  It really is a pretty wild take on Hamlet.

I simply can not wait until Clay finds out about Gemma.

Shrugs, I'm not really sure if SOA really gets people rooting for the gangsters over the cops.

On a related note, I've always been somewhat disturbed from an interview that Tarantino once gave. When he mentioned that often one of his goals as a director is to have you rooting for disturbingly vile bad guys in his films.

I know, it even creeps me out, but there it is.  I think he's hot.  I am ashamed deep down inside about it too.  Jax is too girly, Juice is ok, Bobby I do kinda like, Piney, well I would just kill him I am pretty sure.
