So the US blew half-a-billion on a crap car because we fret over a crap science and now a significant part of that sum of money will be spent on lawyers.

If you drove a bugatti veyron at top speed (+/-250mph) it goes about 51 miles - in TWELVE MINUTES. Of course you can refill the tank in about 5 minutes, but it does cost way more. Well not really if you take out the government subsidies.
