An eye for an eye: Saudi knifeman to have spine cut as punishment

By KAREN MORRISON
Published: 03rd April 2013

A SAUDI Arabian court has ordered a man to be paralysed by having his spine severed as punishment for stabbing his childhood pal in his back.

Ali al-Khawahir left his victim paralysed a decade ago and is now facing the same fate from the waist down if he fails to pay compensation of one million riyals (£176,000).

Khawahir, 24, who has already served ten years in jail, was only 14 at the time of the stabbing but this is not taken into account under Islamic Sharia law.
The ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom is known for its severe punishments – including flogging, amputation and beheading.

Al-Khawahir’s mum has been begging wealthy philanthropists to come forward to contribute to the fund.

She said: “Ten years have passed with hundreds of sleepless nights. My hair has become grey at a young age because of my son's problem.

"That such a punishment might be implemented is utterly shocking, even in a context where flogging is frequently imposed as a punishment for some offenses, as happens in Saudi Arabia.

"It is time the authorities in Saudi Arabia start respecting their international legal obligations and remove these terrible punishments from the law."

We could use some of the punishment in Saudi Arabia in America.  :fuelfire:

I bet rape or child molestation would decrease
Voting for Obama for a second term would be like the captain of the Titanic backing into the iceberg again

If that type of justice were applied here, the criminal would be given lifetime nurse and maid service and have every care taken care of.  Over there it's probably left up to his family to care for him.
