A basic fact about FDR: He was a racist and an anti-semite.

Not only did he intern Japanese-Americans, he also refused entry of Jews fleeing Nazi Europe. He sent them back to their deaths.

I realize what you're mocking, but for the sake of less aware DUpipo, Franklin and Eleanor were "kissing cousins", cousins but sufficiently distant that they could be legally married.

I doubt FDR was particularly racist, personally, but the "Democratic Solid South" was essential to him getting elected, so he avoided stepping on the Jim Crow Democrats' toes. For four Presidential election cycles.
