Woman: "Senator Coburn we need help. My husband has traumatic head injury. His insurance will not cover him to eat and drink. And what I need to know is, are you going to help him, where he can eat and drink? We left the nursing home and they told us we're on our own. He left with a feeding tube. I've been working with him, but I'm not a speech pathologist, a professional, that takes six years for a Masters, and I've tried to get him to eat and drink again and it's been so much - (cries)"

Coburn: "Well I think think personally, yeah we'll help. The first thing we'll do is see what we can do individually to help you, through our office. But the other thing that's missing in this debate is us, as neighbors, helping people that need our help. You know, we've had a - (applause). The idea that the government is a solution to our problems, is an inaccurate, a very inaccurate statement."

So if your husband is dying because he cannot eat or drink due to traumatic brain injury, and the nursing home kicks him out, you are on your own. Unless your neighbors come over to help him relearn to eat and drink again. Quickly. Hopefully, your neighbors are fully trained specialists with lots of free time on their hands. Seems to me that Senator Coburn handled this with great restraint. He didn't call the woman
an insensitive imbecile for traipsing off to a political rally while her husband lay dying, nor did
he call her a liar for confronting him with an obviously fabricated bouncy story, nor did he ask
why she's worried about speech therapy if the poor bugger can't eat.

the $$$$$$ necessary to come back from a traumatic brain injury. Lotsa $$$$$ - it's cheaper to deny coverage.

He should have pointed out that if the guy can't eat or drink, the death panel would turn him
down even if he had O-care.

A speech therapist would also provide therapy for him to eat and drink again.  Speech therapist work on all oral motor functions.   In this case he would require both speech and occupational therapy.

Apparently, this woman, like the vast majority of Americans, hasn't read much of the health care proposal.  They only hear 'universal' or 'government backed' and assume all is good and the sky's the limit.

From the beginning, it's been obvious that the primitives think of "free medical care for all" as everyone having a honeymoon suite of a hospital, five-star meals, physicians rubbing the shoulders and registered nurses massaging the feet, maid and valet service, boxes of complementary chocolates and lobster-tails, and one gets a whole buffet, a whole array, a whole cafeteria, of controlled substances from which to pick-and-chose.

This sounds like a hospice situation.  My BIL is going through his last days like that.  There's simply nothing more to be done but pump the morphine into him from the comfort of his own home and own wife.  I'm not sure what the woman from the bouncy wants Coburn to do, exactly. 

Frank, I agree 100% with your post.  They simply cannot see the reality.
