Just to mention a note of legal reality on top of all the richly-deserved slam-dunking of Dain, dead people aren't tried in the US.  If criminal charges are pending, or even if a criminal trial is underway, and the perp dies, that's the end of the whole thing right there, everything goes away.

Exactly - they will still pursue the civil case for fraud, failure to report income, failure to file, or whatever against his estate.  They will drop any criminal proceedings for tax fraud or related crimes.
