Ah yes, the 1950s. The liberals dream time. They are the never existed, Leave it to Beaver, times when they want to stare down their statist nose at conservative values. You know the old values, where you didn't necessarily have to worry if your door was locked, and didn't worry about letting your kids walk to their friends house a mile a way.
Then they turn around and idolize the 1950s for the period of strong middle class growth and strong union membership. The rest of the world was still trying to dig itself out of the rubble of WWII. The UAW and Detroit hadn't started building cars that fel apart at 100K miles to make people by new cars yet. Unions weren't demanding things that could never be paid in the 1950s. Their economic vision of the 1950s is even more romantic than they claim our vision is. Liberals view US History from inside a bubble.
