The 10 Worst States for Retirees
 http://finance.yahoo.com/focus-retirement/article/11158...

Per the article, the 10 worst states are:

1. Illinois
2. California
3. New York
4. Rhode Island
5. New Jersey
6. Ohio
7. Wisconsin
8. Massachusetts
9. Connecticut
10. Nevada

The list, with Illinois leading the pack, comes from website TopRetirements.com. According to John Brady, president of TopRetirements.com, the 10 states earn this dubious distinction largely because of three factors: fiscal health, taxation, climate.

As for fiscal health, six of the 10 worst states for retirees on TopRetirements.com's list were among those just identified by a Pew Center for States report as being in "fiscal peril."

The report, "Beyond California: States in Fiscal Peril," showed that "some of the same pressures that have pushed California toward economic disaster are wreaking havoc in a number of other states, with potentially damaging consequences for the entire country."

Of note, TopRetirements.com's Brady suggested that retirees and would-be retirees might want to avoid states in fiscal peril because these locales might be expected to face decreasing services and increasing taxation.

Hmm...what do most of these states have in common??

That can't be good.

If we could afford it, we'd all move to New York.

Where they can get refused for needed operations or transplants because they don't have the financial means or adequate insurance to pay for it.
I call bullshit on that list.

10. These lists are usually not worth the paper they're printed on
If it were me, I'd rather be a retiree in parts of New York, Illinois, or California: at least there is some culture there, which is really sustaining. I'd rather have access to museums, theater, and music in my old age than some abstract set of financial indices....

When you ask people nearing retirement what their plans are, you continually hear about dreams of Illinois.

I hope, I hope, I hope those blue state retirees are to broke to move to my little red state hell.

Yeah, art and culture! That's what I base my retirement opinions on! Things like Jesus covered in ants, gay pride parades where assless chaps are considered the latest fashion statement of the day, or the abortion capital of the world!!!! Sounds like retirement heaven!

You betcha! I'd rather live within the top 10 crime cities in America! Never mind the fact that criminals pick on the elderly since they can't defend themselves do to the nanny state liberal gun control laws!

You betcha LA, SF, Detroit, Chicago, and NY City! That's where I want to die! Hell, my kids would probably have trouble stealin' back my corpse!

You know that after the dimwits completely bankrupt or otherwise screw up their own state beyond repair, just pack up and move to a red state so that they can start the process all over again. A bit like a disease that consumes the host.

Ya, when I was young and traveled the western states, we went to Stanley, Idaho.  I said many times that's where I would retire.  It is breathtaking.  Ha!  Here I am in northern MN which is also beautiful, but no mountain backdrop.

That's what happened to Vermont, as Crockspot will attest to.  All of the lefties fled their liberal shitholes of NYC and Mass., and went to Vermont and NH.  They're trying to ruin NH right now.

Upstate NY, where I live, is pretty red right now.  We just booted a lefty Congresscritter that was trying to fly under the radar, so to speak, and replaced him with an Airborne Ranger.  There's hope for us.

Uh, the liberal mecca of Burlington is saturated with socialist Canadian transplants.   No one from MA is moving to VT -- what in the hell does VT have to offer them to make the move?    Don't get me wrong, I love VT -- it is one of the prettiest states in the union, but to move there?   no way.

NH has infested the state of MA for work for as long as I have been drawing breath.   They schlep down  here clogging our highways in their uninsured vehicles everyday.   Sure you have some MA folks who purchased houses in NH border towns when the market peaked 5 or less years ago, but NH has always been the red headed step cousin of New England.   Unless you are heading to the lake for the summer or ski in the winter, you are driving through there to get to Maine only.

There are no active duty bases in New England sufficient for retirees, and it is freakin cold here in the winter.   Not a great place for them to retire, I agree.

The same thing with North Carolina, people who are being driven out of NY and NJ move to North Carolina and take their voting ways with them.

Yes, NH redeemed itself quite nicely in November.

That's pretty funny up there, the DUmmies twisting themselves around to justify the moonbat states from hell.  Culture, music, art?  What, do they think we're living in the year 1800?  Everything is accessible to everyone, in this day and age.  Also, there are air  ports.

In one of our arguments about moving the hell away from NY, my husband asked, "well, where????"  I picked the first place to come to mind.  "North Idaho."

(PS  I'll be taking my good habits and voting ways with me, (along with my bad habits), so I won't be ruining any of the red state goodness).

It is curious how every time leftist policies are tried and then inevitably fail, it is never the policies fault but due to meanies of the right. USSR fails it's USA's fault. Same with Cuba.  Now we have failure in the bluest states and cities and what is the excuse? It is the red state's fault.

You. Can't. Make. This. Up.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I love it when a transplant to NH tries to school me on New England.

Everything I said is 110% true, and let's be clear about the clogging the roadways -- Boston (for W-O-R-K, regular tourist reasons, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and hospitals), Foxboro, Cape Cod, Vineyard and the Berkshires -- NH slobs pollute our state daily.  Every.Single.Day.

MA residents traveling to NH to commit crime?   :lmao:

Good one.
