Owner of closed South End food market blames customers
« on: November 12, 2010, 12:44:01 PM »
Quote
Call it a case of organic sour grapes.

The manager of Don Otto’s - a recently shuttered food market in the South End - is blaming neighborhood patrons for its untimely demise, cooking up an angry message to fair-weather fans of the Tremont Street eatery.

“Don Otto’s Market wants to say we had few customers that understood customer loyalty and its importance to our business,” a message on its Web site reads, later adding: “If you came in only for baguettes, the occasional piece of cheese, the occasional dinner . . . you can not tell yourself you were a supporter of our market.”

The scalding remonstrance was written by Erin McLaughlin, 28, who ran the shop and is engaged to the owner, Michael Otto, 31.

“It was quite frank,” she acknowledged yesterday. “People don’t understand their purchases make a difference, and that by buying something that wasn’t exactly what you want, it gets you closer to what you want. It’s an investment.” ...
Of course she had a DU name

Well now, that explains a lot.....can't be much of a market for organic dildo's.

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Great business model and customer service.  I can't imagine how they possibly failed. :lmao:

Does anyone here pay $8.50 for a dozen eggs?

I might if they were cooked and served to me with toast and coffee, two a day for a week. With some schmucko in the back doing the dishes, BTW.  Might even pay a bit more.

But in a carton, to go in the fridge until I'm ready to take them out and cook them? Nay, I say! Nay!

Not a chance, and I actually do usually try to buy free range eggs.

You remember that bit in Hamlet, where he says: "I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself king of infinite space"?

Shakespeare got that from a chicken.

Kidding!

I could buy 2 dozen for that price, plus a loaf of bread and live for 2 weeks on fried egg sandwiches. Or buy some ground beef, add stale bread and a bell pepper for a decent sized meatloaf and  2 potatoes and make a meal. Then eat the leftovers in the form of reheated potatoes and meatloaf sandwiches for a week. Or I could go to my local farmers market and buy 3 tomatoes, 2 onions and 2 cucumbers and a small jar of mayo and live on veggie sanwiches for a week and a half.

H5 for being a fellow cheapskate.

Today I had a pack of ramen, a bologna and yellow congealed ick (American Cheeeeeeezzzzz) sandwich, and an apple.  I doubt my food cost for today went over a dollar.

Hell, I buy three dozen at Sam's and usually pay under $4 for the lot.

The "real problem" was that their customers obviously didn't know what was good for them.  At those prices, they'd have had trouble affording one meal a day...but it would have been healthy!!!!  And they could stand to lose some weight anyway!!!

I don't have to be a cheapskate. I choose to be. Every dollar saved is a dollar in the bank invested towards retirement.  :-)

Mmmm...Ramen. About .99 cents a pack? And Vienna sausages are a good deal too.  :cheersmate:

Come to think of it I think you're right. I usually just pile a bunch in my shopping cart and ignore the going price because I know they're cheap. (I know I should check the price but I know they're cheap)

I always have a few cans of chicken broth on hand and I boil them in some. The broth I don't use I put in containers and freeze. I like to add canned mushrooms to them also to add some substance. When eating I have some bread with butter to stick to my ribs.

I know how to make the most from the least, as I'm sure most here do, so that I'll never go hungry. :-)

That's not damn funny.  My aunt had to have her arugula removed, she developed mitosis and had to be interned.

Look, we ain't stupid.  If all she needed was a swig of Scope, we'd of guv it to her.  Nope, she got multicellular mitosis, which caused her bones to get ossified, and she got interned to the outpatient clinic and had to have psychic therapy to reduce her libido, cuz that's what happens when you get competents during arugula-ectomy (OK, I'm not shure about that word).

I had to give up arrugula for iceberg lettuce because of the price. I'm so depressed. Can you people get me in touch with a DUmmy where I can get some happy pills? I may have to commit myself.  :gay2:

I think it is just a plain ole arugectomy.  But I could be wrong.  Glad you got her treated though, a hyperlibido ain't nothing to play with.  Well, not in public anyway.
