Title: The Conservative Cave Traveling Library
Post by: Big Dog on October 26, 2013, 12:10:58 AM
(Admins, please sticky this thread).

If you're like me, and I know I am, you have books you have read and enjoyed, and are ready to part with. Some of those books may be inspirational, some may be thought-provoking, and some may be fun- but they all have one thing in common: they're taking up valuable bookshelf space that could be holding new books.

Obumazombie and I hit on an idea for a lending-library and pay-it-forward book club: The Conservative Cave Traveling Library. Generous CCers can post available books in this thread, and inquisitive CCers can browse the selections. If you see a book that interests you, contact the sender by PM to make arrangements to transfer the book. Mailing costs and disposition after reading (options being- return to sender, kept by recipient, or place on the block for another worthy recipient) are between sender and recipient.

The opening move: I am sending Mark Levin's Liberty & Tyranny to Obumazombie.

When he finishes it, he is free to return it, keep it, give it away, or return it to circulation in the Traveling Library. I am also adding a liberty-related quote and my signature to the inside of the front cover, which everyone else is free to do as well. I think it will be great for books to amass quotes from Conservatives across the country (and beyond, perhaps) as they are circulated.

Later this weekend, I will post additional titles I am adding to the Traveling Library. I'll have some politics, philosophy, history, and fiction. I may also add some cookbooks that I don't use.

Good idea. I've got a shit load of books, way too many to list, but if someone has a particular subject, genre or author they're looking for let me know and I can see what I have. Some books I'll want back, but most are free to keep or pass on.

I'm not worried about it. I lend books that I have read and enjoyed, but don't mind if I don't get back. There are some books I won't lend.

I get a lot of books used from Amazon, some of them for a penny plus shipping.

Mike,

Pick out a few and post the titles, if you don't mind.

Just ordered Life Inside the Bubble: Why a Top-Ranked Secret Service Agent Walked Away from It All from Amazon. I'll be glad to share it when I've read it.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/1938067363/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

This is probably just the start of a shit load of tell-all books to come out of the Obama administration, and he's still got three years to go. Techies are now starting to jump ship on Obamacare, too.

Obama is going to make a lot of publishers rich - and better them than him (as if he could care).

I started reading "Liberty and Tyranny" by Mark R. Levin.
He is making me do a book report about it when I finish.
He is a taskmaster of a librarian.
I am taking notes as I go.
I don't want the librarian to make me do it over.

I finished "Liberty and Tyranny" by Mark Levin provided of course by Big Dog. It is once again available for travel.
I took longer to finish it than I originally planned.
I took good notes and am planning on posting my impressions.
I just hope it's not a spoiler for anyone planning to read it.
Thanks again Biggus Doggus.

First installment on book report from the 1st book to ever be sent out into the world of the CC traveling library...Liberty and Tyranny...

Chapters 1-4
The book is based on a quote of what liberty means to 2 men.
The prologue is an introduction to statists, statism, and counterrevolutionaries.
Avalon Project: Atlas: CATO: Heritate: Hillsdale: Chapman.
The conservative manifesto includes the issues of taxation, environment, judges, bureaucracy, education, immigration, entitlements, foreign policy, faith, and the constitution.
Levin references Adam Smith (spontaneous order), John Locke (natural rights) Charles Montesquieu (separation of powers)and Edmund(sp?) Burke (father of conservatism).
Levin observes...libs (whom he calls statists) are expert at surreptitiously creating soft tyranny always leading to hard tyranny. (p18)
Levin refers to James Madison Federalist 51 (government of angels).
Statists (libs) favor agitation demogoguery. (p22)
Levin quotes Edmund Burke before expounding..."Prudence is the highest virtue. For it is drawn on wisdom". (p28)
Then he quotes CS Lewis "A tyranny for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive". (p36)
Secularism and statism are compared and contrasted. (p44)
Levin addresses the imaginary "wall" and separation of church and state. (p46)
Among Levin's discourse on the subject he observes there is no society without morality, no morality without faith, and no faith without God.
Then he concludes God is the author of freedom.

Next installment...chapter 4
