For what it is worth, I think CC does an outstanding job in fostering a political community where everyone is welcome.  That is not easy to do, so our mods deserve high praise for their efforts made on our behalf.

I don't believe in silencing people. No matter what their beliefs are, or how stupid they are. Of course if they break the rules, then I am all for the mods giving the perp a ban, as long as he was properly warned more than once about it.

I really haven't seen a harm done to the forum, or to any individual that would warrant banning. I don't know if Trip got banned, although I did see him break forum rules with multiple warnings, still I didn't see a lot of harm that he did. I wouldn't have favored his banning, just saying.

There is a point where a troll becomes disruptive and you do have to ban them.

The mods have been pretty good about discerning when that point is reached. Sometimes right away, sometimes when we are invaded by trolls from another board, sometimes after members have chewed them up and spit them out.

The presence of pie and kitty posts are a good indicator that a troll is wearing out his welcome.

Bottom line: If a troll upsets you don't let him get you angry. Instead of anger, respond with Humor. If lacking in humor, search Bing or Google for pie and kitty pictures to post.
If you see a particularly witty response to a troll, Hi5 that poster. Reward good behavior.

Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it. Choose to react the way you want, now how the troll wants.

Trolls as in those who post stuff just to get a rise out of us and then play games with us?

Those are the people who are not interested in an honest discussion on something but to sow irritation,unhappiness and division.They are the ones I have come down hard on as a blog moderator to get them to clean up their act or LEAVE!

People who simply have a very divergent view on things and willing to defend them decently are the ones that energize a forum is always a boon.Sure we can blast them for what they write by rational rejoinders but not them personally as a person.
