If you believe we live in economies of scarcity, rather than some unicorn-fart BS ('Cause even Marxism and Socialism rely on scarcity and allocation, whether they admit it or not, they just give all the allocation decisions to the government instead of the consumer) then the obvious result of going from a lack of economic parity is that the population being moved upward gains economic advantage at the expense of the rest of the population, because there are only so many jobs, goods, and services to go around without changing other parameters, and therefore the section of the population losing economic power is going to be somewhat less than enthused about the whole thing.
