Title: Items to Avoid in Bug-Out Bags

Basically it is stuff that leaks, spoils, bursts into flame or stabs/cuts you accidentally. The article goes into greater detail.

Post by: DumbAss Tanker on May 22, 2014, 10:04:16 AM: Personally I avoid anything with batteries, aside from one small LED flashlight using AA or AAA batteries, in any bag I've ever put together. The bugout guns, in particular, have no accessories that depend on batteries.

Post by: vesta111 on August 06, 2014, 11:23:49 AM: Dumb and crazy, a bug out bag of mine will have a first Aid kit. Perhaps 5 pounds of beef Jerky and 10 pounds of Swiss Army knifes for trade. Those plastic tie wraps are great to build a shelter in the woods and weigh next to nothing.

For old folks weight is the question, got to keep the weight down for woman and children.

Question is--who is the bug out bag for, a 180 pound man or at 140 man with kids and a 110 pound wife ?

That's one of the nice things about a private pilot's license: this...

...is all the space my wife gets to put up to 50 pounds of baggage at vacation time. No more. (Did I mention that she hates it when I break out the scale? She does.)

Been there, done that.

I flew on some regional "transport" and we had to sit on the tarmac while the pilot burned off 100 pounds of fuel before we could take off -- I was asked to change seats to "distribute" the load. Loudest flight ever (Saab turboprop). Another charter plane (some Piper or Cessna single-engine in Alaska), we had to line up and have our stuff weighed on a giant bathroom scale.
