mwooldri (1000+ posts) Tue Aug-03-10 02:14 PMResponse to Original message 14. There would be four changes I'd make to Social Security... 1) Eliminate the total amount of income considered for the social security tax. 2) Give everyone who contributes into Social Security a basic pension at retirement age irrespective of contributions. 3) Introduce a new "means test" add-on Social Security benefit to protect the poorest. 4) Lower the retirement age cap so that some benefits can be paid to some people earlier (59.5 yrs I say)Mark.

The great lie. Social Security is NOT your retirement DUmmie. Thinking that SS is your retirement plan is a fools game.KC
It really does shock me how many appear to have never outgrown the "Dad, I need 20 bucks" stage. They want money, they want it now, and they don't care where it comes from.
I'd like to substitute "a punch in the mouth".
The best way to save Social Security is to privatize it.Get it away from the government, and it will be just fine.
