Driving is okay, just don't park.

IIRC the city sold the meters to a private contractor a couple of years ago.  My town is going the opposite direction, they are tearing up streets and and adding free parking to the downtown area.

The only way I'll ever get within 125 miles of Chicago would be in a low orbit over the place, just before the button is pressed to nuke the whole site.

It's the only way to be sure.

Correct about the meters.

Incorrect about the "just don't park." Chicago has hundreds of speed cameras set up all over the city.

Don't drive a pickup on a boulevard. Don't park in privately leased but public space. The red light cameras will nail you all the time. The list goes on and on.

Yep, that's what happened in Chicago.  Costing the city a ton in future revenue for a short term cash infusion, which of course was spent immediately.

When I worked in downtown Chicago in the sixties, the rule was to always carry a $100 bill in your shirt pocket if you drive the Von Ryan. A *cough* charitable contribution to the police retirement fund. It's probably still true today.......

Today it's patrolled by the Illinois State Police, not the Corrupt Chicago Police.
