Well, more important than "normal" is "functional." One can be abnormal as far as their appearance, attitudes and so forth go and still be able to function in society and have fulfilling lives. However, when you can't or won't hold a job, can't maintain satisfying relationships, have unreasonable expectations of those around you, live in a state of constant emotional flux, and are even driven to distraction as to whether you are a friggin' man or beast, you are not functional, but rather dysfunctional. That's not usually the fault of society.
