Help me refute my conservative friend's claims?

Hey all... I've been having an on-again, off-again health insurance reform discussion with a friend of mine. He's a nice guy, but conservative, afraid of government takeover of things, etc. I've slowly been getting him to watch some of Obama's speeches, etc., but he still believes that "Obama wants us all on the public plan" and that the current plan "will cause employers to drop private insurance," which would lead to "the government running everything 10 years from now," etc.

What would you say to him? I'm having a hard time refuting him in a logical, well-backed-up kinda way, without it just seeming like a difference of opinions.

I'm also waiting for the full speech from yesterday to be available via OFA, so that I can send that to him.

I tell you one thing not to do if you want to convince him, show him speeches from Obama. Obama is making no secret that he is intending to phase out private insurance. Rush pointed out something really good the other day. In the beginning Obama would say you definitely will be able to keep your policy. Now he is saying more than likely, you will be able to keep what you have. That is a significant change in phrasing.

So far not one primitive has posted anything that is convincing to help her out.  :lmao:

help I cant think for myself....I have a suggestion: Unscrew lightbulb, take thumb from ass and lick finger, stick in light socket...did you feel a jolt?... Did a light in your head come on?... repeat all steps until you see the white healing light.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

How can you convince someone to support something that doesn't exist? Obama doesn't have a plan...he sloughed off that responsibility to a woman so brain damaged by botox she has hallucinations about Nazis. Obama has been all over the place in the past few years, from adamantly supporting single-payer to simply "preferring" a public option.

You make a good point we keep referring to this debacle as Obama's plan in error. It really is the plan of the American communist democratic party. Obama is just the spokesperson. I bet you he hasn't even read that train wreck. He just says what the TOTUS has displayed.

Well, one guy had a good suggestion for how to kill a friendship:

6. Well, you could start with "Turn off FOX. It is killing your brain cells."
That won't work, so you could try beer.

That won't work, so just nod as if you agree until they are done and then say, "I'm sorry, did you say something? All I heard was noise."

We ran into this yesterday.  Someone lazily getting other people to do their homework for them.  We knew people like this in High School.  Handsome jocks, usually, who grew up to be losers.

The problem of showing your critical thinking conservative friend is that Obumbler has nice words but no proof.  We are just to believe him for he has descended to bring us to the land of milk and honey known as communism.

Take illegals getting free, no questions ask healthcare in front of senior citizens. He could point out the amendment that is in the house bill requiring prof of citizenship instead of just saying it won't happen.  Of course, that amendment would actually have to be there and not voted out along party lines.

Or say that the bill would not fund abortions. He could show me the provision that was taken out by the blue dogs in the finance committee but then put back in by my congress person lois capps in a sneaky parliamentary move.

There right there he could assuage my concerns but he can't because the bill directly contradicts his words.

To a true obmabot this can only mean that the house bill is a lie.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
