BLOOMINGTON -- One candidate to fill a vacancy on the McLean County Board has come forward after being selected by local Republican Party officials to run in the fall.

George Wendt, 9856 North 1540 East Road, will be interviewed today by the County Board’s executive committee to fill the District 3 seat vacated by Mike Sweeney, who retired earlier this year.

Wendt, a precinct committeeman, was chosen by Republican precinct committeemen from District 3 to run in the Nov. 4 general election to finish Sweeney’s term. The term expires in 2010.

However, County Board Chairman Matt Sorensen must appoint a replacement to serve until the election. Sweeney served on the board as a Republican, so the new appointment also must be a Republican.
