How does one type an umlaut?
I use the character map on my computer and copy the appropriate letter/symbol.ä ë ö ü
On a PC :ctrl alt :" then type the letter . On a Mac use "option u" then type the letterÖöÜü
I may be reading this wrong but when I hold down ctrl/alt and type a letter I get this...As you can see it is exactly nothing, so can someone clue me in?
I have a Mac now so I can't test it so see what is wrong.
Aha! Trickery! It doesn't work in Windows.
äëïöü. Option u verified. Thanks Celtic Rose.
Whatchu talkin bout, Willis?
Under Windows hold down ALT while typing the appropriate number code on your numeric keypad to create characters with umlaut accent marks. For Windows, the number codes for the upper case letters are:Ä 0196Ë 0203à 0207Ö 0214Ü 0220Ÿ 0159For Windows, the number codes for the lower case letters are:ä 0228ë 0235ï 0239ö 0246ü 0252ÿ 0255

I am going to have to look into this umlaut word. Very strong possibilities it meets all the parameters of a word deserving banning.
