You an example of foolish voter choices? Try California's Proposition 40 plus elected DAs who as a consequence won't prosecute shoplifting. Last I heard, Walgreens had closed 19 stores in SF due to shoplifting losses. SF now has Pharmacy Deserts! Other stores in SF are facing similar shoplifting losses, and I've seen reports that the Land of LA is seeing the same problem.
The Proposition was Prop 47 and it reclassified certain felony offenses as misdemeanors, so in particular someone who would previously be accused of a felony would now not even require bail.
Then certain DAs decided that they wouldn't pursue even the misdemeanors AT ALL, so in effect, several offenses that would carry penalties of prison time are now de facto legal.
Cue the videos of scumbags walking out of stores, mugging for the cameras.
There are new plans in CA to remove ALL cash bail, so imagine what else the scumbags will get away with.
Let's be thoughtful about what will happen, sooner rather than later:
- There will be more crime in the streets, not less, but it will be limited to places under the jurisdiction of SJW DAs;
- Places where there are citizens who care about their children and their communities will bolster their forces, often with private police;
- No one will want to work at a store where there is no incentive to work. Decent people want to be associated with lawful commerce, not showrooms and warehouses for thieves, so
workers will quit in larger numbers (think about it: why work at a place where the premise of your employment is false?) - Stores will close in places where the law has abandoned property rights, or...
- Stores with higher margins and wealthier clientele will require by-appointment-only shopping and will have private security managing access
- What is now called a "food desert" by liberals will become a "commerce desert" because the suspension of property rights will eliminate all legitimate retail business;
- Behemoths like Amazon will thrive because people will still need groceries and household items;
- Delivery trucks will be raided and looted, and armed people will have to watch over their front stoops 24/7
...and, finally, equal in import to each of those outcomes:
- I will laugh my ass off at the chuckleheads who made it all happen in the names of "BLM," "reparations," "justice," and so forth.
