What does your sign in name stand for?
« on: April 05, 2021, 07:07:40 PM »
While some are not a mystery at all, some others are.

Since I am new to CC and am not acquainted with too many in here ...

I am just curious to know.  :-)

Nigh on 2 decades ago I didn't want people to take me seriously.

Now that the republic hangs in the balance - I still don't.

My screen name here is from my favorite character from the TV show Babylon 5, one of the best sci-fi shows ever made.

You’ve seen enough of my stuff on CU but many here haven’t so I’ll toss this in the ring anyway. After four years earning a duodenal ulcer trying to teach intermediate students arithmetic I got into the oil patch. Ten years with the leading service company later I joined a US major oil company and retired from that same outfit after working under five company names back in 2008. My heart had a major failure and I got a pacemaker that year.
To me, Retread and Workover come from the patch but also from my life getting two medical boosts and still kicking. I’m in end stage heart failure mode but nobody beyond that guy upstairs knows when the end will come so I just keep pumping.
If you’re not having fun it’s your own damn fault!

Absolutely nothing.

When I joined CU in April 2004, had no idea I'd hang around such forums so used a throw-away reference to The Simpsons.  And after about a year as my participation grew, really wanted to change my name.  But the "old" regulars at the time thought it was ridiculous, so I'm just branded as Ralphie in perpetuity.

Strangely enough, joined Reddit a couple of years ago using a similar silly name.  Only participate in a couple of groups that are completely non-political, and on that forum you can't ever change your screenname.  So I've pretty much owned that ridiculous moniker and embraced it.  People in the groups where I post most frequently, have become well known.  And NO, I won't tell you what name it is nor the silly topic of discussion.

Enjoy learning and sometimes remembering why certain people chose their screenname. :cheersmate:

Hello ABC, Always Been Conservative. Or was it, American By Choice.

The first board I was on was Micechat. as Ranger Rick. It was a D&D character name and will I was desperately searching for a name, used it. Shorten it to Rick, people wanted to know if I was a real ranger.

The verse in my signature.  When I first got online at the turn of the century, I was a new Christian and an old metalhead, and wanted something that sounded like both of those.  Many places I'm righteous_slave, but if that's too long, or the site/game doesn't like the underscore (or a couple don't seem to like the "slave" part), I started using enslaved1 to get the verse and a bonus Star Wars reference in.
Romans 6:17-18 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

I have a ton of invented-names from stories...

Drafe Hoblin just popped-in as I was sitting at the signup-page...  He's a sportscar-thief from New Orleans.  I think the 'hoblin' came from 'hobgoblin'.  'Drafe' might've derived-from 'drive'.  I can't remember.

DisneyLand Resort Pyrotechnician.

I was working on the fireworks crew at Disneyland when I signed up.  I should change it to Angel Pyro since I have retired from the mouse and now shoot for the Angel's baseball team home games, but that sounds a little too girly.

Self explanatory.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

Hi Rick!

While "Always Been Conservative" is true ...

ABC stands for "American By Choice"   My old sig line in CU used to read "American By Choice -1980"  The year I & Mr. ABC became happy Naturalized American Citizens!!!

(PS. I also remember you, & thank you, for posting pics of the Rose Bowl Parade on New Year's Day in the forum.)

Started on TOS and frankly I do not recall what originated it as it we well before 2003.

Do not ask where the b came from.  Some sort of a blowup followed by a screwup and I just lived with.

Mine was a now ex-Cubs player, Todd Hundley. The 4 is because I had been banned 3 times on the old Cubs MLB board.

For some reason I always thought it was for Todd's father Randy Hundley, who also played for the Cubs.
