Bill Maher triggers lefties yet again on COVID
« on: January 24, 2022, 07:23:01 PM »
A shout out to Eupher.  While I don't watch Bill Maher, the guy has gotten a hold of the proverbial red pill:

‘I’m done with COVID’: Bari Weiss on Bill Maher sparks controversy

Journalist and author Bari Weiss revved up a fierce debate about our return to normalcy in a COVID-19 world.

On Friday’s episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Weiss articulated what many Americans are feeling: a searing fatigue with the seemingly endless COVID restrictions that have led to an alarming mental health crisis among our youth, saying that pandemic-related rules will be “remembered by the younger generation as a catastrophic moral crime.”

“I’m done. I’m done with COVID,” she said, noting that early in the pandemic she complied with every recommendation.

“I sprayed the Pringles cans that I bought at the grocery store, stripped my clothes off because I thought COVID would be on my clothes. I watched ‘Tiger King.’ I got to the end of Spotify. We all did it,” she told Maher.

And when the vaccines were introduced, she pointed out that they were also sold as an off-ramp from government-mandated safeguards.

“Then we were told … ‘You get the vaccine and you get back to normal.’ And we haven’t gotten back to normal. And it’s ridiculous at this point … If you believe the science, you will look at the data we did not have two years ago. You will find out that cloth masks do not do anything. You will realize you can show your vaccine passport at a restaurant and still be asymptomatic and be carrying Omicron. And you will realize most importantly that this is going to be remembered by the younger generation as a catastrophic moral crime.”

Well, that didn't sit well with Whoopi:

Whoopi Goldberg goes off on Bill Maher over pandemic comments: 'How dare you'

Whoopi Goldberg pulled no punches Monday as she went off on comedian Bill Maher for saying he no longer wanted to live in a "paranoid world" when it came to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I don’t want to live in your paranoid world anymore, your masked paranoid world. You know, you go out, it’s silly now, you know, you mask, you have to have a card, you have to have a booster, they scan your head. Like you’re a cashier, and I’m a bunch of bananas. I’m not bananas. You are," Maher told a laughing audience during his show "Real Time with Bill Maher" on Friday.

"The View" co-host lashed out at Maher, telling him to "stay away from everybody" if he decided he no longer wanted to follow any of the measures used to prevent spread of the virus, such as wearing masks, and argued he was forgetting that some at-risk people were still unable to get vaccinated.

"That’s not really funny to people who've lost their kids … or people who've lost family members or dear friends to this," Goldberg said. "Nobody on the planet really wants to go through this. This is not something we’re doing because it’s, you know, sexually gratifying."

In my view, Maher is just being Maher. In no way, shape, or form has he been red-pilled. He's always been controversial, hence his various shows "Politically Incorrect" and his current show. He's supposed to have been a comedian, though I never thought of him that way.

My problem with Maher is he thinks he's the only smart guy in the room. Whoever he's railing about (and it doesn't matter who that is) is more stupid than can be believed. Furthermore, he likes to play to his audience that THEY are smarter than the guy or thing Maher's railing about. In short, arrogance personified.

Maher's a lefty and always will be. He may seem like he's playing the conservative side of the fence, but he's really not. He's just calling it like he sees it, which happens to be the truth. Nobody said, least of all me, that Maher is a liar -- unlike a lot of Democrats and lefties.

No. She actually said, "That's not really funny to people who've lost their kids to this vaccine".

She obviously meant virus, but still, quite a slip-up.

Was just trying to tweak you because we've been down this path before. :cheersmate:

Maher is a classical liberal, not a leftist/Marxist/socialist.  He clearly isn't an AoC, Omar, Tlaib, Crazy Uncle Bernie, et al.

Just find it amusing when liberals say the quiet part out loud and sing from anything other than prescribed Democrat party sheet music.

OK, Uh huh. Let's come back to Maher and his latest "revelation."

Quote
"It's not me who's changed, it's the left, who is now made up of a small contingent who've gone mental. And a large contingent who refuse to call them out for it. But I will," Maher said.

This is called "positioning" and it's done when the "positioner" wants to distance himself from the clique at hand. OK, fine.

But here's the analysis:

Quote
But the HBO host {Maher] explained that Fox's admiration of him is not a result of his political beliefs moving toward the right but because he is willing to call out liberals who have shifted further to the left.

TownHall

You can call Maher a "classical liberal" if you like, but that would put him in the camp of John Locke. To that, I say with all respect sir, Bullshit.

If you want to split hairs, yeah, OK, Maher is a modern liberal. Certainly not "classical liberal". Probably not a leftist in the same vein as AOC, Omar, and the rest of the douchebags. I'll grant you that.

But I'd suggest you take another look at the definition of "classical liberal" and apply it specifically to Maher. I'm not sure you'll come close.

IMO, (and this is worth exactly what you pay for it); Maher is a "mainstream Democrat a la Pelosi or Schumer, not an AOC, Tlaib, Ayanna Presley or Ilhan Omar.

He recognizes their positions are poison to the political mainstream and result in damaging Democrat Party prospects.

Call Maher whatever you like, up to and including "Ham Sandwich", he just pays little attention to the Prog Plantation boundaries, going on or off as he sees fit.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Meh, it is all semantics.  The lefties started using and deriding the term "Alt-Right" in the mid 2010's, with is their code for Nazi right winger.   It is a term with no actual definition.

We don't have to keep litigating the terms to break down which identity groups people belong to.  Leftists just do that without us identifying them as such.  Maher can at the very least show he has some rationality, whether one believes he's just doing it for ratings or other ulterior motives.

It's a discussion, Ralph. No more than that. No litigating -- we have enough lawyers on the planet.

That said, it's been suggested that Maher has been "red-pilled." No way -- he's still true to his leftist/socialist/liberal/whatever-term-you-want roots. Yeah, he's capable of seeing hypocrisy and stupidity -- being the smartest guy in the room (as he thinks he is), he'll take 'em to task because he's one of them. And the lefties freak out because he's not supposed to do that.
