NASCAR Legend Dick Trickle Dead at Age 71

NASCAR legend Dick Trickle passed away on Thursday afternoon near his Lincoln Country residence. According to a news release from the local county sheriff's department, Trickle died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a North Carolina cemetery.

He was 71.

Wow, very sad.  The guy led an interesting life, that's for sure.  Think he won thousands of races in his native Wisconsin and around the Midwest.

They installed a lighter and drilled a hole in his helmet so he could smoke during caution flags.

I thought it was kind of sad when he came back to racing.  The first thing that came to mind was money problems.  The guy was 70 years old and running qualifying laps for some NASCAR race against men half his age and then some.
