12-Year-Old Stuns Pro-Choice Teacher and School with Pro-Life Presentation

By Kathleen Gilbert

TORONTO, February 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - 12-year-old "Lia" of Toronto has become a star at her school and on Youtube with her five-minute pro-life speech, crafted for a school competition.  Despite discouragement and outright opposition, Lia's presentation was so well done that she reportedly won the contest she was told she would be disqualified from, due to the "controversial" message of her speech.

The speech is available in its entirety on Youtube, where it has been viewed over 100,000 times and sparked a heated discussion. (See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOR1wUqvJS4&feature=chann...)

"What if I told you that right now, someone was choosing if you were gonna live or die?" begins the charismatic seventh-grader in a practice recording of the speech posted on Youtube.  "What if I told you that this choice wasn't based on what you could or couldn't do, what you'd done in the past, or what you would do in the future? And what if I told you, you could do nothing about it?

"Fellow students and teachers, thousands of children are right now in that very situation.  Someone is choosing without even knowing them whether they are going to live or die.  That someone is their mother.  And that choice is abortion."

There's hope after all. Just a great story.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Wasn't there a real cutie who was a "failed" abortion who got similar fame not that long ago?

This is great stuff!

Hi,

That was terrific.  I hope she has the same courage for the next ten years.

My granddaughter was in college and her computer instructor came in and lectured for an hour on why they should all vote for John Kerry, and he ended the class with a statement that next session they have a test on chapter 5......which was never reviewed in class.

The kids were terrified to say a thing about it even at the end of the semester when they filled out class critiques.  They were never sure if those critiques were spread around among the faculty and they would be identified as "troublemakers".

I have a real problem with the colleges anyway.....tenure should be abolished.  How about this job, you make $150,000/year as a music teacher, you teach three hours a day, get three months off and every five years you get a year off with pay as a sabbatical, you can never get fired, and the school pays for you and your wife to go on two retreats per year in some of the most exotic places in the world for "vibration conferences".  Honest-to-God, I have a family member who indeed does just that.

His wife, also a teacher, used to bitch because she felt the school system should give teachers a day off to go Christmas shopping because the malls were so crowded on nights and weekends.  She really got pissed when I told her to go shopping during her summer vacation, she just needed to plan a little further in advance.

Well, without tenure, professors like Mike Adams { http://www.dradams.org/ } would not have jobs...unless they were very careful to always stay silent.  The ivory-tower liberals are not at all tolerant of conservatives or Christians.  We need all of those we can get to stay in their jobs!!

Aside from that, Mr Smith is a college music teacher, and he doesn't get anything like your stated example.  Even the 3 months off...he spends probably 1/3 of it in Continuing Education, and another 1/3 or more teaching online and summer classes.  There are no sabbaticals, no retreats, and his "exotic" conferences are in places like Dallas and Denver.

I don't know how your family member rates all those bennies...but they certainly aren't in all colleges.

Hi,

That is a refreshing story.  All too often we hear of guys like that Ward guy in Denver or the guy we had at USF in Tampa who was helping to fund Al Queida.  Oh they suspended him with FULL PAY for quite some time until it all got sorted out.  In the meantime all the teachers were supporting the guy.  That was pathetic.

Thanks for the input, nice to hear good stuff once in awhile.  For what it is worth my granddaughter was in a state school when the incident I referred to happened, one of many.  She changed to a church sponsored school and each teacher kept their teaching to their assigned subjects.

This was not to stop genuine discussion or debate on the issue but was, rather, a response to the cowardly who used it as an opportunity to throw insults and threats at a young girl that they hated without reason. Thank-you to everyone who, whether in agreement or not, has responded in a respectful manner.
