We have here some of the finest people I have ever been privileged to know. Some of us have known each other literally for decades. Think about that. Think about what we have seen together in those years; and through it all we have remained friends. We have seen families bloom. We have seen friends pass. And yet, we have endured.
By sheer statistical probability, it was inevitable that we should some day encounter a topic that would be deeply divisive. I believe such a topic confronts our little forum. I won't speak to it, because I don't want my words mistaken as advocacy on one side or the other, but I will say this:
I don't wield my mod powers because I don't tell people what to think or do, and I'm not about to start. I expect debate, even rancorous debate, but I ask - I plead - that everyone give wider consideration to whom they are addressing. We're practically family here. It's fine to disagree, maybe even blessed that we disagree from time to time, but please remember that we are good people here (the bad people never last for very long).
Please consider the overall person you are addressing. Again, I have no intention of employing my mod powers, I simply make an honest request in the hope that my time here has earned me a modicum of respect to make this request.
