Before Soldier Field was renovated in the early 2000's, the Bears were openly flirting with moving to Gary, Indiana and be known as the Gary Bears. To quote Joe Biden, NOT A JOKE!
The two biggest problems with Soldier Field are:
1) Lack of access as it sits along the lakefront with no "El" line directly coming within 3/4 mile of the stadium. If one chooses to drive, LSD (Lake Shore Drive) is the only access point given that pesky Lake Michigan right next door. And if one drives, parking can run upwards of $50-$100 in the official lots. Unofficial parking is available along South Michigan Ave and other nearby side streets for $25-$50. Which leads to problem #2:
2) Crime in the surrounding neighborhoods when you leave the stadium. Again unless you can acquire parking on the Stadium lot (which isn't easy), you'll have to walk a long way through the South Loop to get to the "El" or your car. You'll have a 50/50 chance of having your vehicle not broken into.
Baby Groot Lightfoot has ruined this formerly wonderful city, and the Bears are far better off going to the 'burbs.
