Title: Two Olympics, two sports, two medals

Rebecca Romero's decision to change sports in search of an Olympic gold medal was vindicated in Laoshan when she rode powerfully to defeat her GB colleague Wendy Houvenhaghel in the final of the 3km individual pursuit.
Romero quit rowing and the women's quadruple sculls after they won silver in Athens four years ago and it was ironic, to say the least, that moments before she started out today that crew again won silver in the rowing competition.

Romero becomes the first British woman to win Olympic medals at two separate sports and only the second British competitor ever alongside Cardiff-born Paulo Radmilovic, who won gold medals at waterpolo and in the 4x200m freestyle. ...

Romero joins Roswitha Krause in the Olympic history books. Krause, representing the former East Germany, won a swimming silver at the 1968 Games in Mexico from the women's 4x100m relay.

She then won silver in the women's handball final at the 1976 Games in Montreal and handball bronze on home soil at Moscow in 1980.

What an achievement.

Kudos to her.  I saw the end of that racec, replayed in the States on NBC.  Pursuit cycling resembles a NASCAR race, in a way, with all of the blocking and tactical moves.
