I'm going to borrow someone else's words to describe the attraction, at least for some.

I don't think there is a single blog out there I read that hasn't at least once linked to Democratic Underground's Forum. The place is like a train wreck of human thought; you just can't help but gawk at their twisted logic and wild-eyed conspiracy theories. I've even ended up becoming addicted to the site; anytime there is breaking news, I think, "I wonder what the nuts are saying about this," and head straight for DU. It's like a daily freak show.

I have been posting only a few days, and I have a question: What exactly is the purpose of the DUmpster? I find my self oddly attracted to it, like a train wreck or a violent cage match on television. The energy there is startling, but it's all negative energy. Yelling, cursing, insulting -- at people on another discussion board. Granted, the "DU" is a mess, and there are lots of misguided people there. But what's the attraction? Please don't interpret this as criticism, because it is not. I just want to know.

That was kind of my first reaction too.  I was confused.  Actually I'm always confused, but that's another discussion.

I think your description of the DUmp being like watching a cage match is spot on.  Just stick around and get to know everyone here.  If the dump gets on your nerves (it does mine sometimes) then just go to other forums.

BTW, welcome.

It's like visiting the zoo and watching animals eat their own feces and such. (sorry for the visual)

Folks, I note that this can be a very unfriendly place. I was hoping for better. (not this thread or forum)

I doubt I'll be hanging around. I didn't come here for abuse.

I came here for some advice on repairing a shower. Mission accomplished, shower repaired.

In another forum here, I am now being called a long string of names by multiple posters for repeating what four or five others here at conservativecave.com have said. Nope, ain't happening. Looks like I didn't last 25 posts.

By the way, the people piling it on are among those I observed being particularly loud and hateful in the DUmpster. It's a bit ironic, or maybe just consistent. It's what happens when bad behavior gets positive reinforcement, even among adults.

All the best, good people. Thank you for the warm welcome, but I am out! (And, no, I won't let the screen door hit me on the way out.  :-) )

This seems like a logical place to get started.

I'm Archie ("Arch"). From south-central Texas. About 90 outside of Houston.

Great to be here.

And yet you've already gone and shit on the rug.

No...someone disagreed with you and you started acting like a pompous asshole.

Go back to DU.

Welcome to at least 2 if my count is right, was one or more intro threads merged into this one ?
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.
