Oh my.

I got out the boat and rowed over to Skins's island to see what Chief Bawling Papoose was up to today--I was hoping to find his campaign platform or something--but then I bumped into the yenta instead.

Well today I attended a city council meeting

With all the occupier goings and comings... now trust me I understand why the media mostly avoids covering this shit, even if they should. Watching paint dry is far more entertaining. That said, you all should do that at least ONCE. I know I will be doing this again... make sure I drink plenty of coffee though. We almost got a floor show, (as in an arrest)... but I suspect that most folks who complaint about the sausage being made have never been to a local meeting. I recommend it. It is enlightening in many ways.

1. Yep. Those things are pretty boring but the lobbyists and developers types show up

2. And my council has a thing about actual citizens showing up and asking hard questions... that wast he best part, watching that with my own eyes. I am there as press, so I was a busy one scribbling notes. Cops were surprised ANY press showed up.

4. Well it is bad enough when local Council President, who should be paying closer attention than me, is dozing off.

I guess he did not get his coffee.

5. I've been to many myself

Used to work in the print news biz. A couple things I've noticed about attending regularly (also goes for things like school boards and planning commissions):

You say the pledge of allegiance a lot. I've said it way more times in CC meetings than I ever did in school.

It's amusing to watch the political intrigue play out before your eyes. It's like the minor leagues, but still has all of the spin and backstabbing of national/state politics. Related to this, it's really amusing when it's a smaller community and people are entrenched and elections are not contested or it's a body where people are appointed. Quite often then you'll hear some funny stuff from people who don't have to pander and say exactly what's on their mind.

The members of the public who come to address council can be the best part. Usually they are regular people who respectfully voice their concerns. But you also get these drama kings and queens who often have nothing substantive to say, but have a personal vendetta over this or that and love the attention. This can get really funny if it's a bigger community and the meetings are broadcast on public access, because they play to the camera. Lots of yelling, crocodile tears, and hilariously fake indignation.

7. I was doing notes, hubby was doing photos

it was funny, how the body language changed when the lens was pointed at them. With citizen video I guess they cannot keep that up for two hours. As to the occupiers are concerned, they started wincing when they told them what the PD has been up to... I mean voice might say one thing, body language is another.

I'm starting to seriously re-evaluate my estimation of the yenta's husband.

6. I agree, also people should take time to spend an afternoon watching a real court case

tedious, boring and slow.

Still a hundred times better than having one guy stick out his hand with the thumb up or down.

9. I've been to many and they CAN be extremely entertaining at times.

Personally, I wish more people would attend an occasional meeting of their local government.

It is so much easier to have an impact on government at a local level than on a national level and some of the issues dealt with on a local level can have a very significant impact on you. I've voiced opinions at meetings on things like funding for our local library, road repair, hiring additional police officers to cover growth of the community, etc.

10. I was once a council member in a small town

At first it was exciting - at the end of my term, I couldn't wait to get as far away as possible.

:lmao:  I know!

Hard nooz when u need it; not afraid of asking them tough questions, point the camera and make them squirm.

I've been to a few local council meetings.  The most exciting thing was some guys wanted to flood a part of town hall backyard and make a hockey rink for the kiddoes.  The mayor was dubious about liability.

Not really.

I just had a few minutes, and was looking for Chief Weeping Horse, and not finding him, grabbed this.

I'd just as soon the yenta fall off the side of the earth.

One takes what one can get.

Hate to break it to you, Nads, nobody from the press, did show up. :rotf:
A truely pathetic attempt to inflate her own ego.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

If Nads keeps saying this, someone is going to ask to see her Press Pass...............................the implosion will be wunnerful.

Does anyone have a Idiot to English dictionary that I can borrow?
25 years ago we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash and Bob Hope.  Now we have Obama, no hope and no cash.

I was wondering the same thing.  Let me know when you have it translated, could solve world hunger or something.

No, I think that would make her day. She probably wears a fedora with a "PRESS" card stuck in the hatband, like Clark Kent. She's as much "press" as Lucy Van Pelt, with her "Psychiatric Help 5 cents" sign is a shrink. But where Lucy was clever and entertaining, nutcase nadin is just overbearing and obnoxious.
