I was rudely awoken at 9:45am this morning by Fredrickson International. This is how the conversation went (comments later) : ME (Myself) FI ( Fredrickson International)
Ring Ring, Ring Ring
Me = Hello
FI = Hi Can I speak to Mr --- ---------- ---- please ?
Me = Speaking
FI = Hello Mr ------------------, I am calling from Fredrickson International on behalf of your outstanding Tiscali account.
Me = I'm not with Tiscali anymore I went back to BT, because Tiscali are crap.
FI = The amount owed is £42.90, can I start by taking your full name and address ?
Me = ------------------ --------------------, -- --------- ------ (you get the picture)
FI = And can you confirm you date of birth for me ?
Me = I dont give that out over the telephone.
FI = Why ?
Me = Data Protection to prevent Identify theft.
FI = Well I cannot proceed without establishing your identity ?
Me = Why would I want to establish my identity over the phone, you could be anyone, whats your name ?
FI = Thats not important ?
Me = What do you mean its not important, you rang me up asking for my details but you wont give your own.
FI = Whats your date of birth then I can proceed with the conversation, I will have to hang up if you do not confirm your date of birth.
Me = You mean, if I dont give you my date of birth you cannot ask me for money.
FI = Whats your date of birth again.
Me = 12th November 1922
FI = Sir, thats not your date of birth I have here.
Me = What date of birth do you have there ?
FI = I cant tell you that for data protection reasons. Whats your correct date of birth ?
Me = 5th Novemeber 2008
FI = Why are you being a ***** ? (yes he really said that)
Me = You woke me from my sleep to ask me for money and give me crap over my date of birth.
FI = If you do not verifiy your correct date of birth, I will not be able to continue with this conversation. What is your date of birth ?
Me = I am not telling you. But I do have something else to tell you ?
FI = What ?
Me = Do not call this number again, as I registered with the telephone preference service and it is an offence to do so.
FI = I pay my debts why dont you ?
Me = You didnt say please... ta ta
(hung up)
This is how all scum bags that ring you up should be treated.

The original post sounds like a pack of lies to me.
I read something with the exact same 'to and fro' as that post some time ago on Google groups or some such place.
I'd say it was written by the same person.
Some people will believe any old thing people write on about.
I get the feeling it's just a story and never happened as narrated.
Maybe some such phone call of a remotely similar nature a year or two ago, that has never been 'purged' out of the system, even with, on a regular basis all the numerous 're-encountments'.
Look out for this tale croping up somewhere else sometime in the near future.
You'll know it when you see it.
