Is prostitution still illegal?

If it is, Spitzer is up the proverbial creek. It makes no difference whether or not he was targeted. He BROKE THE LAW. End of story.

4. Well, not really. If it can be shown that he was selectively investigated

and prosecuted.

So by that logic when the Feds go after some mob boss he's automatically off the hook because he was targeted? :mental:

Yes, idiots, prostitution is still illegal.  So is transporting people across state lines for the purposes of prostitution, wiring money across state lines to pay for said prostitution, and setting up "shell corporations" to launder that money going to those shell corporations to be wired across state lines to pay for those prostitutes--who were transported across state lines.

All Federal felonies.  All with serious Federal prison time.

Actually prostitution is leagle in Nevada in all areas except in Las Vegas. On the HBO tv series called Cathouse they show pretty much what goes on there and its alll leagle. They have even had the tv actor from the show "Grizzley Adams" Perform a wedding there since he is now a minister.

I "personally" think it's a dumbass law.

Prostitution, whether legal or illegal, is the perfect way for the aggressive to exploit the weak.  I'm glad it is illegal.

I already live in a country where it is legal to kill babies before they are born.  I don't want to compound the immorality by saying it is ok to sell our sex organs for profit.  Isn't human sexuality already cheap enough?

I met a few girls (probably half a dozen) who worked at the lower end of that profession.  I'm talking thirty-five bucks, tops.  They all had drug addictions, mental and personal problems.  I don't think its any different with the women at the top.

I used to take the liberal view of prostitution, that it's just a business transaction between two consenting adults.  After seeing what someone will do for twenty dollars, I've changed my mind.

Anyone that's ever dated a woman is participating in prostitution. Sorry, it's the truth. Prostitution isn't going away.....EVER. It's the oldest profession on the books. Might as well regulate it and tax it. ...and yes, the damn government has NO business getting involved in the business between two individuals. Don't think so? Don't start bitching when the government tells you you can't sell your rifle to someone else without going through one of their "licensed" dealers.

Courtship is not prostitution in any form of the imagination.  Maybe you were thinking differently, but I was just being a guy who wanted a girlfriend who wanted me to be her boyfriend.  I cannot even begin to make my relationships into something sleezy like that.

Still, I don't want to live in a society which ignores the Biblical principles of sexual morality.  We are not animals.

A guy asks this good-looking woman if she would have sex with him for $10,000 and she says immediately YES.

Then he asks if she would have sex with him for $5000. After thinking she says yes.

Then he asks if she would for $20. Outraged, she asks him what do you think I am?

He says that we have already established what you are and now haggling over price.

Gotta disagree with you there, Rebel, unless you are telling me the only reason you go out with a female is for the sex?

When I go (well, went, now that I'm married), it wasn't for sex, it was for a personal relationship.  Seems to me the prostituiton is just for the sex, no relationship desired.

I'm a supporter of legalized Prostitution.  The way Nevada has it set up is smart.  It provides a safe, stable environment for the people who partake.  No one is pressed into it against their will.

If it where to be legalized, it should be done so in a manner that follows how Nevada has it set up.  Once doing that, it would DRASTICALLY cut down on the "bad" type of prostitution that occurs in this country.  Human trafficking would be curtailed significantly, transmission of STD's through prostitutes would almost cease.  Very few cons, lots of pro's.

I'm doing what I can at this stage--she turns 5 months old on Monday.  I have heard that about the porn stars.  I know that there's one who went back to school and got a PhD.  I don't think she's doing porn anymore, but I know that she's doing some AIDS awareness stuff within the porn industry.

I have incredible respect for you guys who have daughters (moms too, but this is directed at the dads):  You know how you were, you know how boys are -- how you don't lock your girls in their room until they are 35 is beyond me.

I am not being facetious.  I really do have great respect for you.  In today's world, to instill values and morals is quite the task (and thanks, Moms, for leading by example).

Again, respectfully, I disagree. Some things should be illegal because they're wrong. It's not a victimless crime. Families get destroyed. "People are going to do it anyway," the usual response to this issue, isn't reason enough to legalize prostitution.

I wouldn't want a brothel, legal or not, in my neigborhood.

It comes down to what kind of society we want. I'm no libertarian. Again, some things should be illegal because they're fundamentally wrong. I don't want to live in a society that says it's fine for a person to sell him or herself to another person for sex.

I'm not saying my argument is entirely logical here. Again, I would not want a brothel in my neighborhood.

Hell no. As for Dirty Dancing, there better be something more than just sex involved. I better have a home-cooked breakfast in the morning as well to have to suffer through that swill.

Why is it "fundamentally wrong"?  It's been an almost universally accepted practice for all recorded history.  It is a practice that has really only become "looked down" apon with the advent and growth of Christianity, which is a rather short period of our long history.

I saw a Day by Day cartoon (by Chris Muir) a couple of months ago which addressed this.  One of the characters, a former CIA "operative," and his wife have twin girls.  He has this vision, and his wife asks him what's wrong, and he responds with words like these:  "I just realized that I have to hunt down and kill every bad boy on the planet."  I can identify with this sentiment.

So if you paid a $20 hooker, and she didn't deliver, you'd be ok with that, but if you paid a $500 hooker, you'd expect her to keep her end of the "deal".

Because to me, thats basically what you are saying.

So if you paid a $20 hooker, and she didn't deliver, you'd be ok with that, but if you paid a $500 hooker, you'd expect her to keep her end of the "deal".

Because to me, thats basically what you are saying.

I don't pay for hookers. You have me confused with CW.

But you are saying hookers and women you are courting are the same....so I'm trying to follow the analogy.

...because the entire thing started out with me just messing with you guys.  :evillaugh:

No, women aren't prostitutes for going out on a date. Damn, people. You guys must think I'm a sextet or something.

I think she said sax-less.  A sextet is usually drums, 2 guitars, 2 trumpets and a sax.  But id she is saxless, we have to assume she plays the trombone.

Why is it "fundamentally wrong"?  It's been an almost universally accepted practice for all recorded history.  It is a practice that has really only become "looked down" apon with the advent and growth of Christianity, which is a rather short period of our long history.

Simple question. Would you want your mother, sister, or daughter doing the job? Why?

THAT's why it's fundamentally wrong.

:yeahthat:

We were having this discussion at work today and one guy took the position that it shouldn`t be illegal to begin with and that 35 years ago they should have legalized pot too.

The problem with that is it assumes that in making those things legal it would eliminate all the bad things that go along however there is a thing called the law of unintended consequences.

If pot was legalized then what happens when that becomes passe,do more move to coke, heroin, etc?
If prostitution was legalized and they always say regulated then what is to prevent black market unregulated prostitution which would be the same as today?
Would gay prostitution also be legal and if do how then does society deem marriage to be between a man and a lady?
What would be the economic impact of that on society and so on?

What seems harmless sometimes is not always so,look to the misguided war on poverty that has done nothing but entrap and enslave generations into it.

Even the "high end" women seem to have problems...
Describing the "Emperor's Club" models...

But the women could be difficult at times, according to the criminal complaint. One woman missed her appointment, and the agency suspected drug use. Brener ultimately decided not to use the woman anymore, the papers said.

Drugs had gotten in the way: "A lot of these girls deteriorate to this point," Brener was quoted as saying.

One prostitute left early to pick up her children. Suwal noted that women with kids have "a little more baggage." The agency was also having trouble collecting money from "Samantha," who they believed was doing drugs, too, authorities said.
