I dunno.

Remember, primitives lie.  All the time, primitives lie.

But surprisingly, responses in this poll seem fairly or mildly honest to me.

Poll question: How old are DUers?

I'm between 50 - 60

57 to be exact

Where do you fit in?

Poll result (125 votes)

Over 75 years old   (0 votes, 0%)

65 - 75 years old   (11 votes, 9%)

55 - 65 years old   (34 votes, 27%)

45 - 55 years old       (36 votes, 29%)

35 - 45   years old      (29 votes, 23%)

25 -35   years old      (13 votes, 10%)

Under 25             (2 votes, 2%)

I'm not telling   (0 votes, 0%)

Note, I had to clean up the formatting job done by the canned primitive, because it was sloppy--and even then, it still looks bad--but anyway the above is exactly the words, no changes.

but I tell people I'm 39

(I don't think it works though)

12. Try telling them you are 48 or 49. And you get to hear about how great you look.

17. I'd probably have to tell them I'm 55 for that to work

Uh-oh.  A primitive gets paranoid:

2. Do you honestly think 25-35 belong in the same age range?

What kind of information or opinion were you hoping to form from this?

3. You asked two questions- I'll try and answer them - I never suspected an issue with the age ranges

You didn't offer an alternative, so I have no idea what a "better" age differential would be.

BUT

I suspect from your response that SOMEBODY would complain about whatever age groups I picked.

As for what kind of information I was seeking, and not just for myself,

I thought other DUers would be interested to see the demographics of this board.

It is a simple poll - How old are the people that post on this board?

If you do not like this poll, then ignore it.

9. Let me help explain...

It seems that polls are often posted like this, and please don't take offense... but typically by someone on the farther end of the poll. When you're discussing age ranges, 25-35 is a very inaccurate representation for many reasons.

Professionally speaking - many on the lower end of 25-35 are just getting established in their careers (not started, but established). Many in the upper end of the range are in senior positions, management or further.

Personally speaking... 25 yo's are either still single or just getting started in their families. 35yos are more likely to have established families.

I could go on, but I think the point is clear. It's just not a very scientific way of "lumping" people. Even five year ranges would be far more accurate.

PS. Please try not to take offense - it just seems to be a common theme on this board that I find somewhat odd.

13. Not taking offense - was not trying to "lump" people into categories.

I just picked them numbers out of my 57 year old brain

As for being scientific

We know it is not.

I have to be so careful about everything I eat, my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. that I guess i feel much older than I am sometimes but at the same time I realize life is very delicate and you have to take good care of yourself.

16. Putting the "Over 75 years old" category at the top is elitist.

Oy. They would bitch about the flavor of lollipops if they rained down on them from heaven while they pranced on streets of gold.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I'm surprised California Peggy and the grey warrioress haven't responded to that poll, so it has a couple of "over 75"s--but then and again, it's very early morning out in California, and they're probably still getting their beauty sleep.

In which case they'll have to slumber a long time yet.

Am I the only one who thinks that it is very possible that California Peggy is a man?

Not quite sure, I've been working up the courage to look at a pic. Maybe I'll need to drink five more bottles of Guiness...

These people always sound older than they actually are. Just goes to show you how much negative emotions age you. The youngest one in your sampling went into a whine about its health. That's rather pathetic, really. The way most of them talk I just figured they were around 55 and up. Heck, the majority of them just missed the whole hippie, counter-culter, "when protests used to mean something" Woodstock generation. OTOH, there's Undies over here who I was truly surprised to find out was older than me. I thought he was in his 40's too. Kind of broke my heart because he's my second crush after Frank.
