Idaho’s wolf hunt is on
BOISE - Idaho will start selling tags next Monday for its first-ever public wolf hunt, to give hunters from both inside and outside the state a shot at up to 220 of Idaho’s wolves - a quarter of the wolf population.

Idaho’s Fish and Game Commission voted 4-3 for the wolf-hunt plan, with the three dissenters holding out for an even more aggressive hunt to target 49 percent, or up to 430, of Idaho’s wolves. Chairman Wayne Wright, one of the dissenters, declared, “Now’s the time to do the right thing. … Neither our state’s economy, our ranchers, our sportsmen or our elk herds can wait any longer.”

The decision was closely watched both by hunters who’ve been deluging Fish and Game with inquiries about the hunt, and by wolf advocates who maintain the state’s going too far to target a species that until May was considered endangered..

2. Unfortunately  hunters are on the side of maintaining wild areas.
But a quarter of the wolf population is way too much.

3. Wow, this is horrible! How the hell can they do this?! n/t

Uh, I'd say they will do it in two ways: with rifles, and with pleasure.

DUmmy Chemisse reminds the DUmp that the people directly affected by this stupid wolf
reintroduction are the last folks whose opinions should matter. Bureaucrats inside the

5. Is this just a backdoor way to get rid of the wolf population?
I don't know about Idaho, but wolves have been carefully reintroduced to areas in the
west in spite of angry protests from residents.

(If DUmmy Chemisse keeps talking about a backdoor way, she'll have benburch
knocking at her backdoor before long.)

8. This can't be true because Obama was going to reverse Bush policies...
...Right? Just like there was no clear cutting in Tongass National Forest, right?

What's worse, the Kenyan wants these wolves shot from helicopters.

While it is true that these dogs are the ones that need a traumatic lead injection, wolves travel in packs, too.  If you want to take your chances against a pack animal, where one of them weighs 70-80 pounds--and there may be seven to eight of them--go right ahead.  A cousin of mine, who is a cop in one of the local cities, told me that when he goes out walking his dogs (he lives north of me, about 20 miles from the city he works in), he takes a .38 Special with him.  He's heard the coyotes in the area, and he doesn't want his dogs (which are probably larger than an Eastern coyote, on a one-to-one basis, and the coyotes are 35-40 pounds) to have to go up against the coyotes.  So, he takes precautions.  He hasn't told me whether or not he's ever had to use the .38, and I've not asked.

There is no way I'd go into the woods in the Adirondacks of NY without a .22 handgun, at the very least.

Lately these wolves have been spotted stalking children! If the DUmmies want to save these predators, perhaps they can volunteer for the wolves' supper! Countless pets, sheep, calves and colts have been unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity of a wolf pack!

The truth is, the program to re- introduce wolves out here has worked too well! The population has exploded! The powers that be finally gave the go ahead for the ranchers to defend their livestock. Previously you went to jail for defending your livelyhood.
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

Those that are most in favor of increasing the spread of animals like wolves are those that live far enough away they'll never lose a pet, or child, or their own life to these animals.  I say we should teach them how to duck cars, and turn them loose in NY and LA, to start.  Lots and lots of prey...   :naughty:

Yeah ....turn a pack of starving wolves loose on the top floor of their little ivory towers.

No it is the owners that need to be shot.
It is one thing to reintroduce an animal that was low in numbers but those new higher numbers have to be managed. They are killing off the prey species and are breeding too fast to keep the numbers manageable. White tailed deer are in such numbers in this part of the country that if not hunted would starve. We have driven the natural predators away and there is nothing to keep the numbers down but hunting and disease.

Oh and most of the sheep killings are by family dogs that are allowed to run free. There are some sheep farmers that have been put in financial ruin by moronic city people that move to the country. So a few sheep do add up.
I myself almost shot a neighbors dog that was chasing a valuable horse. But she sent him into orbit before I could get my hands on a gun. I would have had the law behind me if I had to dispatch that nuisance animal.

So dear vesta why don't you leave the wildlife conservation to those who actually know something about it.

I don't know where you live April,  I in this area would not go into the woods without a side arm. The wild life is being crowded out and we see more every day.

Crap April, we kids would run wild in the woods and never see a wild animal, All summer long  we would look for deer or moose tracks so in the fall we could go hunting with parents ,and we went bare foot to boot.

The only thing we had to fear were the CoyDogs, hungry, sick, no fear of people and as dangerous if not more so, then a Moose in Rut.

Now if someone can find anything at all about healthy Wolves attacking a person, please send it and I will eat crow.

Oh, that will happen sooner or later, but it won't be the furry kind of wolves.

In Ontario, Canada where thousands of people visit Algonquin Provincial Park-and many of them come to see or hear wolves-five people have been bit in the past twelve years. During August 1996, a wolf dragged 12-year-old Zachariah Delventhal from his sleeping bag. This particular wolf, prior to attacking Zachariah, had entered campsites and taken things such as a backpack, tennis shoe and other human items. As we've been in contact with the Delventhal family, we can let Zachariah describe what happened. He wrote the following in November 1996:

Now where is that joke about the sheep rancher and the compassionate county agent?   :hammer:

Seems the rancher had come to a meeting to hear the compassionate county agent's solution to the ever increasing wolf problem.  During the meeting the agent reiterated the best policy would be to give the wolves  feed to chemically castrate them.  After listening as long as he could, the old rancher raised his hand and politely addressed the young county agent, " Son, I don't think you fully grasp the problem here, them wolves are eatin our sheep, not trying to phuck em." :rotf:

Gonna be a hot one today Vesta.
