Of course, this isn't the nocturnally foul one here, who by virtue of being here is no primitive.

Anyway.

Help with car problem

My son's girlfriend was driving and her car couldn't get over about 50mph then the speedometer would say 70mph but she was going about 40. It felt like it wouldn't go into gear. It also had trouble starting, it would turn over but then stall. It's an '01 Kia Rio with about 100k. It has to last a few more months and then the loan will be paid and she can get rid of it. Any thoughts on what it could be and how expensive? My son and his friend can probably do the work.

Okay, the nocturnally foul primitive's had this problem since September 2005, and only one other primitive responded, suggesting he look at the internet.

In case the nocturnally foul primitive is still having this problem two and a half years later, do any of the automotive experts here have any guesses, and speculations, as to the cause of the problem, and what one can do about it?

Sounds like the engine is fuel starved, bad fuel pump maybe, clogged fuel injectors? That would be my guess

That guess could have been written in Sanskrit and mean as much to this primitive.............the problem has been going on for almost 3 years and has probably not put any fuel cleaner in the car

They could try the gas treatment....It probably won't work at this point 2.5 years after the onset of the problem.Cleaning fuel injectors and changing a fuel pump may be a tall order for these two.Shoulda kept up the maintenence on that Korean piece of shit :whatever:
