The militaristic Wal-Mart primitive, who works as a waiter at the Village Inn:

Question: A friend or family members dying wish is for you to convert...

Okay, lets say a very good friend or family member is on his or her death bed. This person begs for you to renounce your own beliefs or non-belief and join his or her religion. They explain that they do not want to die knowing that you are destined for eternal damnation. They want to make sure you are "saved". Or if an atheist or agnostic is dying, they may want you to convert because they fear you are wasting your life on religion.

Even with your own convictions and view on religious thought, would you agree to convert? Would you hold your ground?

Remember, this person is dying.

I'm a strong agnostic or even atheist. My mother is evangelical Christian. If she begged me to convert before she died, I would do it. If only to comfort her in her last moments alive.

This is for all people of all religious background. The situation calls for you to renounce your own beliefs and announce conversion to another set of beliefs

Please explain why you would or would not convert.

Also, a bonus question. Let's say you are the one dying and a friend or family member begs you to convert before you pass away. Would you convert or refuse to change your beliefs?

On Edit: The announcement of "conversion" does not mean you literally take up the religion or non-religion. You simply have to say that you will.

1. Says here in the Constitution thingy that folks can make up their own minds.

Death-bed conversions are yucky.

2. I'd consider lying to comfort them

I wouldn't actually convert afterward- that would be an even bigger lie. As for the bonus question; my answer is no, I would not convert.

14. That is what I would do

And regarding the bonus question - if I were the one dying and someone was making those demands on me, I would tell them to shut the **** up.

Although actually, if it was your mother, and she would suffer tremendously believing you had gone to hell, hmmm. I still wouldn't do it. That is her pathos.

Okay, so the above comments are the general drift of the bonfire.

So only the Primitives of Prominence from here on out; it's a big bonfire.

10. You don't think God would understand if you were simply trying to comfort a loved one?

I could understand your refusal to renounce you religion on your own death bed, but it seems different in the first scenario.

Ooops, only one Primitive of Prominence at the bonfire; all the others are the unterprimitiven, the faceless lynch mob.

OK DUmmies....you've been a pain in your mothers' ass since way before you were born.....why change now.

Anybody see the self-posted photographs of the militant Wal-Mart primitive that he posted on Skins's island?

I think the link's in the latest thread here about the soon-to-be-renamed maudlin waif primitive (self-posted photographs of him, too).

The militant Wal-Mart primitive looks, uh, a bit older than 19 years old.

Why would an atheist or agnostic want to convert someone? After all if the atheist is right it wont matter what one believes in when they die.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Selfish to the end I see. Many things have been said to comfort the dying that the person saying them knew a)wasn't happening(think of telling a dying soldier that the battle was won when it was not), b)knew they would or could not make good on, and/or c)was told in good faith but was not likely to happen. Generally people have more compassion for the dying, but these are dummies we are talking about here. Their only compassion for the dying seems to be if it can serve their ends of getting free healthcare, rides, meals, or homes.

I also would never presume to think of what I might say on my deathbed. For someone to say they would tell someone trying to convert them to **** off is pure and utter bs. Even the biggest pricks when it came to religion ended up begging God for mercy and forgiveness in the end and professing a belief in something. I don't think anyone can presume what they might be thinking or saying in their final hours.

Just like all the pacifists there are quite militant.

No DUmbass of Walgreens, I would not renounce God on my deathbed, nor would I require it of anyone else.

I have a different version under the communist health care plan:

Suppose you have voted republican all your life and you come into the hospital to have a life saving treatment.  The Kommisar of Admissions of the hospital asks about your political leanings.  Do you sya you are a democra...communist to give you a better shot at getting the highly rationed procedure?

That, my friends, is where this going.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
