A man from east London who began binge-drinking at 13 has died after being denied a life-saving liver transplant.
Gary Reinbach, 22, from Dagenham, was given only a few weeks to live after developing cirrhosis of the liver.
But health chiefs ruled he should not be exempt from strict organ donation criteria which require an alcohol-free period of at least six months.
A statement from NHS Blood and Transplant said: "This case highlights the dilemma doctors face because of the shortage of donated organs.

2. Not if he cant do the 6 months dry
stray cat
5. organs are in short supply and have to be rationed as a result

29. The issue here is not lack of money, but shortage of organs
The issue is both, dimwit.

85. Rationing of what? Organs?
If there were a brazillion extra healthy livers in stock at The Liver Store waiting on nothing more than a needy patient to request one, what precisely leads you to believe he would be denied the procedure?
The cost. In this case, healthcare was rationed.

88. The procedure isn't rationed because of cost.
It's rationed because of a limitation on human organs.
That's a lie, it's both cost and limitation.

30. You're confusing two separate issues.
Not approving this guy for an organ transplant has nothing to do with health care.
Sure it does, it's gov't rationed healthcare. Yes, the insurance companies ration healthcare, but it's going to be even more restrictive should the gov't do it. The gov't healthcare in Europe and Canada have proven that to be the fact without question. Would this 22 year old have received a liver transplant in the USA? Maybe not, but he would have stood a better chance here than he did under socialized medicine.
But here's the crux of what we need to watch:
SemiCharmedQuark
16. What does that have to do with the article you posted?
The article is about rationing organs, not rationing care.

23. They both deal with rationing health care.
SemiCharmedQuark
25. No. This story is about rationing organs, NOT health care.
You can see how it's going to be portrayed by these idiots. If someone isn't provided the medication they need, it's not rationing healthcare, it rationing medication. If someone can't get in to see the doctor for months on end, it isn't rationing healthcare, it rationing the availability of doctors. If someone has to wait forever for their kidney dialysis, it's not because they're rationing healthcare, it's because they're rationing the use of the dialysis machines.
I could go on but you get the picture.
