Title: 2021 Super Bowl Commercials
Post by: Dark Powers on January 26, 2021, 04:59:38 PM
This year will defiantly be different. Not just the teams playing. But so will be the norms for the ads.

This year many mainstay advertisers are backing out and refusing to run ads out of fear of angering views. Not just on the right by running PC correct social justice ads, but also the left by running ads that call for peace or unity.

Some bowing out this year include Coke, Hyundai, Olay, Avocados From Mexico, Little Caesars and Ford. While others are opting to use their air-time to promote health safety or just general company information opposed to their usual ad buys. These include Pepsi and Budweiser.

This year, will see many new advertisers who in previous years could never buy ad space due to cost. And there will be much less ad space compared to previous years as ad space is going unsold.

In the next three post, I will be doing a full rundown of all current advertisers and their ads. So enjoy.

Who takes the hardest hit from this?  The nfl or the network who bought the rights to televise the game?

I think some of it is driven by the fact viewership is way down from past years.  The NFL pretty much screwed the pooch by not stopping what was going on.  I know I used to be a football junky, hardly missed a televised game, but I haven't watched a single game in 3 years, including the Super Bowl.

I wouldn't rule that out, and there likely is some. Could also be partly the teams. Seriously. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not really a nationally discussed team.

But many of the large advertisers have flat out said they don't intend to due to the political climate.

Coke flat out said with the fact their having to lay off a large portion of it's employee's it didn't feel it was right to spend millions on super bowl ads with so many of it's workers laid off.

Budweiser though it's running nearly 4 min of ads for it's brands, for the parent company which usually does the Clydesdale or a heart warming ad, is instead using that money to run ads on regular spaces to promote covid vaccinations.

Pepsi is bowing out after their 2017 ad blew up in their face featuring a BLM protester walking up to a police line offering a office a pepsi in peace. The BLM movement torched the company for that ad and they have been reeling sense.

Gillette for the same reason after their horrid campaign questioning "Toxic Masculinity" and promoting transgenderism as well as the #Metoo movement. The company lost more then $8 Billion from that campaign.

I think we're talking low-ratings.  Or we were before Brady got-in.  Not sure how the numbers are going to shake out.

I don't have a feeling about the ads.  There'll be a ton of flops.  There always are.  The thing about the Dot Com era were the amount of one-time-only ads.  A lot of those companies went out of business within weeks after the broadcast.  That's the closest era that I can compare to what broadcast may come-off like this year.

It'll be interesting to see how 'the commercials' frame the reality of kids being out of school.

Looks like rates are the same as last year.

BUT

There is always a proviso for refunding the advertisers if there are fewer eyeballs.

I and many millions of my fellow ex-nfl followers will be eschewing the game and its commercials, even on YT.

God willing, this will be lowest audience since SB I.  And the lowest share ever.  I hope nbc takes a freaking bath.

Too bad, we could use some actual mindless commercial humor.  I am barfing sick of all the feel-good BULLSHIT 'We're all in this together/be socially responsible like a good little Young Pioneer' crapfest that keeps spraying flecks all over the inside of my TV.

Of course around here viewership is gonna still be decent, since the Chiefs are playing and people here pretty much love Mahomes, and what's not to like, the guy is truly amazing to watch on the field.

Changing of the guard, maybe.  The best (and oldest) QB in history vs. the best of the new breed.

But I will have nothing to do with those woke bastards.  I have a special hate for the cowgirls when I saw jerry kneel with his girls for the Anthem in his little playground.

He and the nfl can kamela themselves and the horse they rode in on.

Wrestling superstar John Cena has teamed up with the Mountain Dew to give away $1 million to one lucky fan.

All viewers have to do is tweet the exact number of Mountain Dew Major Melon bottles that appear in the 30-second Super Bowl spot to win. The ad will not be released until air time during the super bowl.

Since I consider the game 'a Trump win' I can assess the commercials realistically.

They were awful.  Offensive in their utter inoffensiveness, a lot of them.  Hyper self-aware.  Too many unnecessary black-actors.  Embarrassing revivifications...  Like the Wayne's World one.  Cadillac's Edward Scissorhands ploy... pathetic.

I think some of it is driven by the fact viewership is way down from past years.  The NFL pretty much screwed the pooch by not stopping what was going on.  I know I used to be a football junky, hardly missed a televised game, but I haven't watched a single game in 3 years, including the Super Bowl.

KC

Me too

I liken it to seeing a woman you really, really loved becoming a corner-dwelling hooker.

I used to LIVE for the NFL  - never cared for the college game probably b/c I went to a college sans football.  I watched it religiously since 1969.  Just like you, I stopped watching 3 years ago when they started that flipping off the US flag by kneeling (aside: try doing that in ANY other country in the world -- you will be lynched by the fans).

When it looked like the NFL was taking some steps to put a stop to that nonsense I started watching again for a short while.  But then they started again, in force.  When jerry and the cowgirls decided to take a knee collectively that was the end for me.

I miss it very much but just as I would never go to the hooker unless she came to me forswearing her new lifestyle I will have nothing to do with it.

I hope they get HAMMERED in the ratings: get woke, go broke, NFL!

Radical left-wing loser Bruce Springsteen trying to pretend he cares anything about the average American and is interested in unity was enough to cause me to lose attention.

Otherwise, glad Bucs won. Tampa has had quite the run in pro sports this last year.

For the most part, I will agree. Ether just bland. Or leftism pandering on full display.

Think maybe 3 - 4 good/funny one's. And this included some of the regional. And the few trailers.

Didn't bother watching the game. It will take a lot for the NFL to realize what they are doing to them selves, all in the name of making their criminal players happy. (80 arrest in the last 5 years)

Wasn't watching most of the game unless it was on mute, but found this nugget from near the conclusion via Fox News.  And it was from the national radio broadcast.

Kevin Harlan may have had the call of the night during Super Bowl LV.

Toward the end of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ domination of the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, a fan ran onto the field and briefly disrupted the game. The fan appeared to be wearing a pink outfit with the words Vitaly Uncensored written across it.

Harlan, who was on Westwood One, called the incident as if the fan was running for a touchdown, breaking security guards’ tackles along the way. The man slid at the one and was met by about six guards when he went down.

"Some guy has run onto the field. Some guy with a bra," Harlan said. "Now, he’s not being chased. He’s running down the middle to the 40. Arms in the air and a victory salute. He’s pulling down his pants! Pull up your pants my man! Pull up those pants."

After the guards tackled the intruder: "Pull up the pants, take off the bra and be a man!"

Can't really readily imbed the audio call, but here it is on the FNC link:

Sounds like Harlan made an assumption of the man's sexual identity.   He can expect a temporary suspension, minimum of 8 weeks of sensitivity training and reinstatement to his announcing gig only after the high priests and priestess have determined he is thinking the "right way"

I read a story about this online.  I don't know if it's true, but if it is ... LOL!

They said he placed a $50k bet at +750 there would be a streaker on the field during the game.  A friend of his was a diversion so he didn't get caught too soon and he hit the field.  After he paid his friend and his $1,000 fine, he cleared $374k.

Hope it's true.  LOL

If that story is true, that's quite the haul.

An aside, have you or anyone else been to a sporting event where an idiot runs onto the field?  Saw it probably half a dozen times at Wrigley Field, Soldier Field or Comiskey Park, and a few college football games over the years.  Crazy idiot drunks.

I've personally never seen it in real life.  I used to go to a lot of baseball games at Busch Stadium when I was a wee lad, but I've only been to a few professional games as an adult.  Both Baseball and Football.

I'd blame media coverage, as the jag offs who run on the field can be easily publicized in the internet era.

Old Busch Stadium, a great ballpark on the few times I paid a visit there in STL. :cheersmate:

If I can make it to the new TX Rangers stadium this year, it'll be the 3rd park they've played in during my adult lifetime.  Which is crazy, because I just hit the 5-0 last year.

Apologies for going off on a tangent. :ashamed:

Because Springsteen got pulled-over for DWI.

It ran a mere 3-days.

Think the best line I heard after the cancellation of the ad was that Jeep should just reshoot the ad with Bruce having to use one of those breathalizer devices to start the Jeep.

And Bruce:  :sosad: :sosad: :sosad:

I read a story about this online.  I don't know if it's true, but if it is ... LOL!

They said he placed a $50k bet at +750 there would be a streaker on the field during the game.  A friend of his was a diversion so he didn't get caught too soon and he hit the field.  After he paid his friend and his $1,000 fine, he cleared $374k.

Hope it's true.  LOL

Here are some further details on the streaker and the betting issue:

Bovada could cancel bets after Super Bowl streaker says he made $374K on stunt

Clothes off, mouth shut may have been more profitable for Yuri Andrade, the Super Bowl 2021 streaker.

Bovada is investigating irregular wagers made on the possibility of a fan streaking during the Super Bowl.

Andrade had bragged to a Tampa Bay radio station that he and his friends placed bets on Bovada after they hatched their streaking plan. Andrade, who made his move toward the end of the fourth quarter, claimed he and his pals profited $374,000 off the stunt.

A Bovada spokesman said they were already aware of the irregularities before the radio interview, “but needed to complete our investigation to identify all accounts associated with the irregularity before announcing.”

Bovada said that all of the “NO” votes would be refunded and the legitimate “YES” ones would be paid out.

“Our players have always trusted us to ensure the integrity of all props offered in our sportsbook,” the statement read. “We will continue to make sure that any publicity stunts or ill-intended behavior cannot adversely affect the outcome of a player’s wager.”
