On complaints on the media

The latest kerfunkle, as usual, revealed the deep distrust in American media. Yup, it's real. People simply don't like reporters, we are evil (and apparently making six to seven figure incomes). Not just that, we are pampered.

Well, first off journos rarely make that much money. Do some journos make thatt pay? Absolutely, but most reporters do not.

But let's assume you are right...what are you doing to change it? I work in local INDEPENDENT media...and we go after stories that the big boys don't, or won't. Whether those are back country wild fires (this weekend has real potential), or the ever so exciting local boards. These boards are where a lot of decisions that directky affect you are made, even city councils, places that can be snoozers.

Here is the best part...those stories get poor readership. It matters little what you do with writing and photos. They just do not generate interest, and are boring...(which they tend to be, especially when they get technical)

When it is mentioned that this is not cheap, and the jeep does not run on sweet kisses, people turn around and go away. Why? It costs money, but don't bother asking for support. This brings me back to indie media. It exists, it works to bring you another perspective, but reporters are some greedy monsters raking it in...

Why do we worry about the AP spy case? Most AP reporters are not raking it in either. But it is how it will affect the willingness of sources to speak to reporters. It matters litte if this is the Grossmont Unified School Board, or the Julan Fire Board ( talk of local) or national security. I guess we will have to go back to unlit garages at three in the morning, and disposable phones. After all, we really should have the government approve negative stories on the government. Yup, that will really happen...

Now it looks like DOJ is thinking of going back to the rules put in place by the Church Committee after Watergate. I guess those are special rights or something.

Now let me bask in the glory of raking it in...NOT

1. kerfunkle?

Love the way you include yourself as a journalist. I think the wind turbine threads complete with blades traveling miles and cancer clusters, may have finally turned the tide on that charade for both you, your "editor," and your "publication."

Personally, I haven't seen anybody around here express dislike of (real) reporters or call them greedy monsters. Sounds like made up bullshit to me. Yes there is justified distrust of mainstream media and some of the "stars" that present "news" but including yourself with the serious independent journalists bringing real information to the public, and including them in with the big machine of mainstream media is just inane.

Could you clarify? What is your complaint, exactly?

If you have a link to something that prompted this post, that might help.

I have never heard any journalist refer to him or herself as a "journo." The term is simply not used. I don't know anyone who uses that term. I've heard other journalists refer to poor journalists as "hacks." I've hear journalists simply use the word "writer" to describe themselves. Other terms are also in use, both positive and negative.

Journo? Never. Maybe the jargon has changed since 2004, when I stopped writing for publications. I doubt it.

I only think that Nadin hasn't responded because all these people are on her "iggy" list.  :lmao:

Where was this stated?

There are greedy people in the media like Alex Jones, Glen Beck, Rush and even a few that once were thought of well have jumped the shark like Woodward...but I don't think anyone is knocking legit media or journalist.

Your complaint about low readership of your articles may be routed in the fact they aren't interesting to people outside your area. The other fact is when articles aren't based in reality the readers tune out because they don't trust the said media or journalist.

I really don't understand why Nadin doesn't post all this at a local forum if she wants to push the rag she works for. I just don't think she's going to last at the DUmp much longer, she's starless with many starred enemies.

Too bad the Weekly World News is no longer in print. I bet gnads would have been great out covering the bat boy stories.

Or maybe she is bat boy?

Kerfunkle...I think that's my favorite so far. I know we've got an ongoing list of her various careers (linguist should be one of those) but do we have a "Nadism" dictionary? Some of these are just priceless!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE LOCAL REPORTERS WRITES FOR THE LOCAL PAPER AND SHE WORKS IN THE CRIME DEVISION AND MAKES LESS THEN I DID WORKING IN A FACTORY.

Sad she went through hell when the police chief got a boner for her and was caught peeping in her windows at night.    The chief resigned and his wife left him but she is still reporting and doing a darn good job of it.

Being a free lance reporter for no pay is far different then a reporter that gets a salary and needs to live on that money in a small town.

Heck you or I could do Nads  "job" with a throw away camera and attend a meeting of the garden club.

Nads job is but a hobby of hers, something to keep her busy when her Hubby is out with the boys getting sauced at a titty bar.
