Purveyor (9,747 posts)Ohioans’ food stamp aid to be reduced; Benefit to fall $50 a month starting in January<snipped>
marmar (57,610 posts)1. Whomever is responsible for that "calculation" needs to step foot in a grocery store.
Arkansas Granny (13,678 posts)2. Yes. I'm pretty sure that the higher cost of groceries has more than canceledout any savings that they saw in utility bills.
sunwyn (351 posts)3. I recieve food stamps in Ohio and yesthis will be devastating. I have been unemployed for 4 plus years and while I managed to live off my savings for 3 years, I finally had to apply or go hungry. I have an allotment of 200 dollars a month as I have no income though I have to hitchhike to the job center and put in so many hours a month. Jobs are still few and far between here. To top it off - the garden that I planted last Spring and looked so promising early on, crumbled to dust as the temps soared and the rain was non-existent. I have nothing left to sell and live with my elderly mother because she can no longer manage on her own. I am close to just giving up....
SickOfTheOnePct (1,792 posts)6. People do donate stars, you know that, right?
etherealtruth (7,398 posts)7. This is what prompted your first post?Amazing ....?
one_voice (8,743 posts)8. Ass!
sunwyn (351 posts)9. some kind person donated my star.... clearly compassion and comraderie are out of
etherealtruth (7,398 posts)12. The jack ass is no longer among the postingSo sorry to hear of your struggles. I am ashamed of a nation that lets this happen
antigone382 (2,993 posts)15. I'm gonna go ahead and brag on myself for alerting on that turd.I rely on foodstamps as well (I'm in school as a nontraditional student right now, and I look forward to the day that I can give back more to my society than my society has given me). Losing $50 out of $200 would be a serious hardship for me (and dear lurkers, my star was also donated by another DUer). I am very sorry that you are going through this right now.
uppityperson (67,570 posts)10. The garbage was taken out.
sunwyn (351 posts)13. Thank you....I will never understand so many people's lack of compassion
hrmjustin (3,083 posts)5. So sorry to hear that my friend. Don't give up.
sunwyn (351 posts)11. Thanks for the kind words folks....they go a long way toward my morale

Melinda (4,626 posts)17. You shouldn't see a change in your benefits.Based upon what you said above as to having no income, it appears as if you have no excess shelter costs or need for the standard utility allowance deduction (used with housing costs +income +household size to determine allotment). And of course you are a separate household - you prepare and eat your food apart from your mother. Many families live under one roof, and each of those families or individuals need apply as separate households to ensure they receive benefits based on their income (or lack thereof) and shelter costs alone. It is those with income that are going to primarily suffer a loss of benefits, and I simply don't understand why the USDA has decided to change the amount allowed as a utility deduction. I'm going to get up to speed on this.Regardless, as the article says, more than 869,000 Ohioans' will suffer increased food insecurity (gads, I despise that term), and with 46 million in the US living in poverty and 1 in 4 children going to bed hungry each and every night, this is unconscionable and should be criminal.Hang in there, and know you have souls out here rooting for you and doing their level best to help those like you thru this time. It took Bush* eight years to destroy our economy, and it's going to take a while longer to get things running again.
Maplegrass (41 posts)16. Unconscionable. This is no time to be taking food off the tables of the most disadvantaged.

But hey! You do have a new Obamaphone.
There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
According to the Obama regime inflation is well under 2% so losing $50/month should be no big deal.
I'm paying a lot more and buying less these days....some things have doubled since Obummer took office.

Since the folks in Ohio who are on food stamps voted overwhelmingly for socialism...I hope they all starve in the dark and cold.Own it, moonbats.
I don't thinking cutting fifty bucks a month will do it, though.I think the cut should be a whole lot more.
