I wanted to nominate him, but desisted because some primitives paranoically "connect" franksolich with dead primitives, for some reason.

Whoa! That was a job worthy of Carlos the Jackal.

No one suspected the demise of grouchy old Don was coach's deadly handiwork.

The toxicology report found all kinds of chemicals, but not a trace of a SK wrench.

And the legend grows.

There's a problem, though.

One person writes all the awards.  The winners are given to him a mere five days before it's time to start posting them.  And those five days happen to be.....just before Christmas.  There's been circa 15-20 awards every year, and of course not all of them get written in those five days.

If one has family, social, or work obligations (I don't; I make it a point to clear the calendar of all such things beforehand), he couldn't do it.  It's a lot of pressure, to churn out so much in so little time.

Some of the awards I've written have been, literally, hot off the press, first-and-only drafts, and finished just seconds before I've posted them.  The closest call was when the die alte Sau won Top DUmmie in 2010; that was scheduled to come out shortly after lunch-time New Year's Eve.

I had to help the neighbor with some cattle in a raging blizzard the morning of December 31, 2010, and it was past 1:00 p.m. when I got back inside.  I'd written not a word about the die alte Sau, thinking I'd get it done that morning.  I was considerably wet and my hands and fingers frozen when I sat down in front of the computer to write the award.

I have been thinking about this for a couple of days. Please know that I appreciate all that you do. But I can't resist asking for the creation of one more "Special" award. Perhaps this has been considered before, but how about the DUfus?

I am leaning towards the wishadupes for the group award.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

That group grew one larger today with the addition of the fizzgig primitive.

Although I shouldn't vote at all as I missed most of the year, Nads is the one poster that I missed chuckling at the most - so if that doesn't say DOTY, then I don't know what to tell you.

Nads for top prize.

"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

If that's the case, nominate all 5,000 of them.

Besides their official primitive screen-names, should nicknames with which we've baptized particular primitives also be cited on the ballot, or would that look too much like favoritism for certain ones?

Such as:

BainsBane (:jugs:  :yahoo:)

DainBramaged (the brain-damaged primitive, walrus-face)

grasswire (addled Judy, the pie-and-jam primitive)

Would that be cool or not cool?

I would find it helpful, as for some, I only recognize them by their nicknames.

Yes, I believe they should be cited with their nicknames.  I don't have a reason, other than they're funny.  The only problem is settling on a single nickname for each one, if one is all you intend to list.

The grasswire primitive is known by at least two names: pie-and-jam primitive and also grasswipe.

Frank, first thing you might want to do is to double-check the spelling of the official screen names:  upper-case/lower-case, spaces/no spaces, underscores/no underscores.  For instance, Fire Walk With Me does not use underscores.

As far as nicknames, I would be inclined to mention them in the descriptions, not in the ballot listing. And nicknames vary. Your nicknames are not always obvious to me; they're not necessarily intuitive, and they may not be the ones I use in the DUFUs. And with Nadin or Pitt, e.g., they each have more nicknames than Carter has pills. But as long as we have the official screen names, that's the main thing.

This was a concern of mine--screen-names need to be accurate for "search" purposes--and I had double-checked the names.....with the single exception you cited.

I dunno why, but "search" wouldn't show anything under "Fire_walk" or "Fire walk" or &c., &c., &c., and I was truly stymied; I couldn't find an example of his posts so as to get it the way it is.  Thanks for the illumination, as I wanted the names to be 100% correct, so as to not give Skippy on Skins's island another chance to gloat that "franksolich made a mistake....."

As far as I can tell, all the others are correctly stated.

I was alluding to the fact that they think you have mysterious powers over them. If you nominate them they die. That's why I said nominate em all.

Who knows. We could get lucky.
