19. Poor Nancy seemed to lose her awareness and look to be

dozing off. I liked how only half the group the Republicans got up and cheered bush. I printed off a list of changes since 2001 and the most irritating thing was that Bush raised his salary from 200,000 to 400,000. It should be repealed until this country is out of debt.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4257547

this is in a thread about Edward's response to the SOTU last night.. and I went to look up this info, and lo and behold, it was CLINTON who signed legislation in 1999 to raise the presidential salary to 400K.

no doubt, Bill thought he and Hillary might stand to gain from this ..

from "How Stuff Works" website:

As president, Bush makes $400,000 and gets additional money in various expense accounts. Cheney makes $208,100 and also has expense accounts. In September 1999, President Clinton signed legislation that increased the presidential salary to $400,000, effective January 2001. The Constitution prohibits pay raises for sitting presidents. This presidential pay raise was the first since 1969, when the president's salary was raised from $100,000 to $200,000. Adjusted for inflation, $200,000 in 1969 would be worth $930,232 today. On top of the salary and expense accounts, both the U.S. president and vice president are given free housing with plenty of amenities. The White House has 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, a movie theater, bowling alley, billiards room, tennis court, jogging track and putting greens. Bush also has use of Camp David, the presidential retreat. Cheney lives in Number One Observatory Circle, which has been the official vice presidential residence since 1974.

20. That is among one of the first things the next Pres ought to do...

...though I won't hold my breath waiting. Not only that, they ought to retroactively repeal it and make bu$hit pay back $200K to the country.

yeah, if Hilary were the next president, she'd roll that right back..

38. Here's a challenge..............

Who here has the guts to call the WH today and suggest just that? #1-202-456-1111, when the menue prompt to choose 1 comes on ignore it. ( everytime I have done that I get put on hold for too long)
The Govmt. stole $78B, collected in SS taxes on YOUR income last year, and used it for other purposes! Thats how Bush knows SS isn't going to be there for you, he's been using! Did you notice the unanamous applause when he stated he would KEEP the tax cuts? THEY ALL benefit from it!
WE DON"T!
Call & suggest that "Georgie Porgie Puddin & Pie" return the $200,000. extra salary he has been getting for the last 7 years!

yeah, call the WH and they will say, "sir.. madame, could you please call Bill Clinton's office to discuss it with HIM?"

I don't know why they've suddenly decided that they need to reveal just how uninformed and idiotic they truly are, and all because of one speech.

from another site...

"The annual salary of each Senator and Representative as of 2006, was $165,200.

The Speaker of the House earned $212,100 during the 109th Congress (January 4, 2005-January 3, 2007)
while the Majority and Minority Leaders earned $183,500 (the same as the Leaders in the United States Senate). A cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) increase takes effect annually unless Congress votes to not accept it. Congress has the power to set members' salaries; however, the Twenty-Seventh Amendment prohibits a change in wages from taking effect in the same two-year term in which it is passed into law."

you would think the DUmmies might be a tad upset that Nancy makes more than their beloved Clinton did when he was president...

52. Actually President Clinton signed the pay raise in 2000.

http://usgovinfo.about.com/library/weekly/aa012101a.htm

The increase came as part of the Treasury Department appropriations included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2001 and signed into law by President Clinton on Dec. 21, 2000.

For Immediate Release April 14, 2006

Quote
PRESIDENT AND MRS. BUSH RELEASE 2005 TAX RETURN

President and Mrs. George W. Bush reported taxable income of $618,694 for the tax year 2005. This resulted in a total of $187,768 in federal income taxes paid by President and Mrs. Bush.

The President’s 2005 income included salary earned as President and investment income from the trusts in which their assets are held.

President and Mrs. Bush contributed $75,560 to churches and charitable organizations, including the American Red Cross – Hurricane 2005 Relief, the Salvation Army – Hurricane 2005 Relief, the Salvation Army – Pakistan Earthquake Relief, Martha’s Table, the Archdiocese of New Orleans Catholic Charities, the Mississippi Food Network, and the Federal Government’s Combined Federal Campaign.

Don't worry, DUmmies.  Be happy!  Our President and his charming wife pay their "fair share".

Forced ignorance or just plain vanilla stupidity?

The gifted and talented over at the DUmp somehow mange to get 99% of everything wrong.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
