Washington Post says this will "probably" be Bush's last State of the Union
For years, President Bush and his advisers expressed frustration that the White House received little credit for the nation's strong economic performance because of public discontent about the Iraq war.

Today, the president is getting little credit for improved security in Iraq, as the public increasingly focuses on a struggling U.S. economy.
That is the problem Bush faces as he prepares to deliver his seventh and
....... 'probably' ...... final State of the Union address tonight. …

WTF?

3. the constitution doesn't specify that the sotu be a once a year deal...
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 06:26 PM by QuestionAll
it says "from time to time" or something to that effect. it's just become tradition to do it the way they do now- once a year at the end of january or thereabouts. but if situations dictated, he could do another one any time.

Don't you get all technical Question.....................meltdown coming

10. there should be a law that you have to poll above 35%
 to give one.

4. Don't worry, it will be.

When he declares martial law and suspends the elections next November, he'll dispense with the SOTU speech as well. Why bother with the window-dressing of democracy any more, once the cat's really out of the bag?

5. Well the next president should be sworn in
on January 20th of next year, and quite frankly my fear is that they will find a way to stay in power

If they do, don't expect a state of the union. SOTU's will become quaint memories with the rest of the Constitution

And yes, I know some folks here think this is paranoid thinking... you do NOT build the amount of power they have to leave it behind. I guess that is the historian in me talking...

6. Heard the exact same phrase on "NPR" just a few minutes ago
I started yelling at the radio again.

It's designed to freak us out a little.

7. Is Bush about to add his own signing statement to the U.S. Constitution?
He already seems to have been doing it to our laws at regular intervals throughout his Presidency.

9. some presidents do an outgoing
SOTU, but usually not in person - in written form.

Some don't.

And has been pointed out above, the constitution doesn't require a SOTU once a year, or in January. He could deliver another if he so wanted, either in person or in writing.

So yes, it's PROBABLY his last SOTU.

Good grief, those people are PATHETIC!!

Indeed they are, Flame.

But their moments of abject fear and panic as they play out their fevered paranoid fantasies in the twisted confines of their dysfunctional crania are ours to savor here as one would a fine wine.

You simply cannot buy entertainment such as this!

I'm just glad to see that they actually spell their worst fear correctly these days.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
