onenote Donating Member (1000+ posts) Tue Jul-29-08 11:40 AMOriginal messagePredictions. And feel free to add your own. Over the past couple of weeks, I've seen any number of predictions posted here on DU. So why shouldn't I get in on the fun. Here are a set of predictions. Feel free to comment. And add your own if you'd like:1. Chimpy will not stay in office past the scheduled end of his term in January 2009.2. The US will not attack Iran with nuclear weapons between now and the end of chimpy's term. Neither will Israel.3. Chimpy will not be impeached, before he leaves office or after. And he won't be indicted or charged with any criminal acts here in the US and he will never be required to stand trial before any international tribunal. Same goes for Cheney.4. Gas prices will not drop below $3.00 between now and election day.5. Obama will not win all 50 states. I pray that he wins the election, but its too early to predict the outcome other than to predict that it will be relatively close (i.e. closer than 1980 and 1984 and probably closer than 1988).6. The Democrats will make substantial gains in the House and Senate. Pelosi will remain as speaker and Reid will remain Majority Leader.7. The stock market will not drop below 9000 between now and the end of the year. It probably won't even drop below 10,000.8. The Washington Nationals will not win the World Series. There you go. Have at it.

BOSSHOG Donating Member (1000+ posts) Tue Jul-29-08 11:44 AMResponse to Original message3. Trent Lott's Senate seat will go Big (D) in November

I am gonna have to disagree on gas prices: NYMEX Oil is down 4.10 today, to 120.63, Gas is at 3.00, both dropping, for August delivery. It ain't even lunchtime. The air is leaving the energy bubble, because the air is leaving the large institutional investors, they recognize they have trashed the economy, and they need cash. Now.On edit, regarding Obama: Something moved this week. Something changed with the MSM, when we found Andrea Mitchell, the NYT and others calling McCain a liar, essentially. Because the McCain campaign was calling the press liars on stories they had reported. In watching clips of Mitchell on TV, you could see real smoldering anger behind her eyes. Somehow, some way, something changed with this and it changed, subtly, the perceptions of the MSM.Don't discount this. Mitchell is a tone-setter in the press. She has far more power than she deserves. But there you go.

The market is going to go in the crapper big-time, but not as badly as our overall economy.Sadly, if Obama wins, he will get much of the blame, even though he doesn't deserve it.

laststeamtrain Donating Member (1000+ posts) Tue Jul-29-08 04:45 PMResponse to Original message27. I don't know what it will be called but... ...there will be a Social Democratic (or Democratic Socialist) political party in the US.Once established it will very quickly become a major force in American politics.Next year? Five years? Ten? Don't know. But it'll happen.
Tierra_y_Libertad Donating Member (1000+ posts) Tue Jul-29-08 04:46 PMResponse to Original message28. Obama will pick another moderate as VP. Unfortunately.
I predict sometimes next March or April Obama Hussein will be ask to move out of the way after he accidentally walks into a photo shoot taking place in a hallway in the Capitol building.
There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
