Boring at the dump tonite. Found this small campfire. Might get bigger.

The Link:

The 'pugs are waging war on the poor....will our party finally fight FOR the poor?

The OP:

Quote
For three decades, the message has been "Ditch the poor. We can't EVER defend them....we can't ever propose the kinds of real change(like jobs programs and letting two-parent families get public assistance, so that those families could stay together)that would actually break the cycle of poverty. The most we can do is make things slightly less bad behind the scenes, when nobody's looking."

Any chance our pros will finally get it that one of the reasons this party exists is to stand up for everybody the 'pugs attack...and then work like hell to get all of those groups to the polls?

We need to be doing voter registration AND i.d. parties in every poor neighborhood in the country.

We need to offer the poor something OTHER than endless lectures and sanctimony. We need to LISTEN to them when they tell us what they need to get out of poverty.

We need to challenge those who want to make sure a large and growing number of people STAY poor in order to discipline the people who are still able to hold onto their jobs into not asking for much.

There is not just a class war, but an economic civil war, with the aggressor in the conflict trying to create a permanent underclass that will be forced to travel constantly across the country looking for any work they can get, without ever being able to vote or have any power to change their conditions. Our party can only truly flourish if we fight back FOR the poor, defend them as human beings, defend their right to be treated with dignity and respect, defend the idea that they are just as much of value as everyone else, and that it is good for the whole of the country for poverty to finally be brought to an end.

We cannot prosper as a party on a long-term basis by appeasing the bigotry of those who hate the poor and deny their humanity. No one who does has any progressive or humane values, and few of those who do would ever vote for anything but the most reactionary people and parties on the ballot anyway.

If we fight that fight, we can take the future. If not, we're headed for the ashheap of history.

Any chance our "insiders" will ever get that?

We need to challenge those who want to make sure a large and growing number of people STAY poor in order to discipline the people who are still able to hold onto their jobs into not asking for much.

Sounds like the dems to me.

2. The problem is that designation, "the poor."

Get it through your thick skulls, people, we're all poor these days when policy is being decided by billionaires.

They're waging war against everybody who isn't a billionaire and that means you and me.

When Krugman writes a column about the Republicans and much of the government waging a war against working people, wake me up.

That's what's going on here and the billionaires are winning.

We are all poor these days, Warpy? Ummm... who is the president again?

4. Pugs are a lost cause

Moderates, otoh, are ripe for the picking. We have recently seen that there are, even on DU, way too many moderates who would sell their own people to the piglicans just so they can remain snug.

I call for an all out attack on the moderates who would vote for a Reagan or Bush again!

That's the ticket!!!! Piss off 93 million people.

7. "Our party" is owned and operated by the 1% just like the Republican party.

8. When you ask, "will our party finally fight FOR the poor?" We first must establish

which part of "our party". Every day almost you read about a Republican that is switching parties. These switchers bring with them their low-life conservative ideologies. This part of "our party" wont support the poor. With the decline of the Republican Party, there has been a migration of Republicans, along with their ideologies, polluting the Democratic Party.

So for sure the Conserva-Dems wont be interested in helping the poor.

Now we need to look at the DEmocratic Party machine along with the Corp-Democratic Congress-peoples. These are bought and paid for by Wall Street and Big Corps. They wont help the poor.

So to answer your question, there is a good portion of the Democratic Party that will not support the poor.

OK. This is a new meme I guess. All the GOP leaving the GOP and being dems now? If so, then wouldn't that say that most of Americans are more conservative than statists?

You decide.

Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

The Democrats have been fighting for the poor for 50 years and the poor have increased.

That's by design, as Rush says they need a permanent underclass to keep them in power. If we had a booming economy they couldn't sell socialism nearly as easy. The more people doing well the fewer who want socialism.

The Democrats have been fighting for the poor for 50 years and the poor have increased.
The number of "poor" depends on how it's defined.

Fifty years ago, poor people didn't have free phones, air conditioning, dishwashers, microwaves, cable color TV, computers, automobiles, $100 gym shoes, etc., etc., etc..

If we use a reasonable definition of "poor", more like that used by the rest of the world, they've nearly disappeared.

To maintain their base, democrats need to convince more and more people that they're poor.

The DUmmy implies that poor people know what they need to do to improve their lives, they're just too damn lazy to do it.

Meaningless feel-good kumbayah crap.

There is only one way to "break the cycle of poverty," DUmmy.

Work.

Work for yourself, or work for someone else. If you don't have a marketable skill, go out and learn one. Use training programs, apprentice yourself to a trade, or work harder and longer to make more money.

No one, or no government, is going to hand you a basket full of golden coins so you can turn your mom's basement into a penthouse, where you can spend your life in blissful Cheeto-fueled stupor.

An analysis of the Top 20 Richest People in America (from Forbes Top 100) reveals that a full 60% are actually Democrats. Furthermore, if you look at it from a “family” point of view and not as individuals,  that ratio widens even further to:  25% Republican / 75% Democrat.

Analyzing the data takes us even further. Not only are there more Democrats in the Top 20 list, but those Democrats are a lot more stingy with their money when it comes to campaign contributions. Republicans coughed up $5.2 million while Democrats squirted out only $2.1 Million. These statistics would indicate that the more you have, the less you give to your political party.

I get so sick of hearing the left always accusing the Republicans of being the rich ones who don't care about the poor.

Quote
a 2006 ABC News piece by John Stossel and Kristina Kendall, Brooks’ research has shown that conservatives donate about 30 percent more than do liberals.  Interestingly, on average, conservatives earn less than liberals.

And to go even further, how do you think the majority of people on welfare vote?

Well Dori... it all goes to compassion. The dems have none.

Another reason might be that most of the reps worked their ass off for their money and understand what it is like to be poor while most of the dems inherited or married it. Peoples exhibit 1: Jay Rockefeller. He wants to spend other peoples money, not his own. I doubt he even knows how to manage his money.  Mitt Romney made his. Either that or it is because the rich dems know that most of the poor dems are nothing more than lazy parasites. Peoples exhibit 2: The Dump.

LOL DD. Without his millions, Rocky would be trying to get on disability and on the dump complaining about the evil rethugs denying him. Back in the mid 80's I remember reading that he got 93 million a year from his trust. When Rocky and Arch Moore went at each other for the senate seat Jennings Randolph had, he spent like 15 million. This was back in the 80's. Unheard of round these parts even to this day. Arch Moore's campaign was "Make him spend it all!"

Of course Arch Moore was a corrupt bastard too and went to jail. I guess he didn't grease the right palms. Gotta love WV politics. Hate some politician? Just wait... they will eventually go to jail. Especially in Southern WV.   :cheersmate: :cheersmate:
